Job description

Technical Support Officer (Building Control), We are seeking a Technical Support Officer to provide high-quality administrative and technical support to our Building Control team. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient processing of planning and building regulation applications, maintaining accurate data management, and delivering excellent customer service.

Day-to-day of the role: 1. Application and Data Processing:

  • Assist with the processing of building regulation applications and associated documentation.
  • Receive, check, register, and record applications, including management of fees and income.
  • Maintain accurate ICT-based and paper records, including scanning, plotting, and data entry.
  • Produce letters, reports, memos, and general correspondence for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all records, registers, and data systems remain up-to-date and compliant.

Technical and Administrative Support:

  • Provide day-to-day support to the Building Control team, ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Support updates to Building Control datasets, GIS systems, and relevant webpages.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing statutory returns and service performance information.

Financial Administration:

  • Support the processing of purchase requisitions and application fees.
  • Assist with cash reconciliation and compliance with financial procedures.
  • Maintain accurate audit trails for fees and charges.

Customer Service:

  • Respond professionally and efficiently to customer enquiries.
  • Provide accurate information and advice based on building control procedures and requirements.
  • Promote a positive image of the Building Control Service.

Additional Duties:

  • Support the naming and numbering process for streets and properties.
  • Contribute to business planning, performance monitoring, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Assist at team meetings as required.
  • Undertake any other duties in support of the service, demonstrating flexibility to meet operational needs.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with technical documentation and regulations.
  • Knowledge or awareness of planning, building control, or construction processes.
  • Competent in ICT systems, data entry, and use of digital tools.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience using Building Control or planning software systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and plans.
  • Knowledge of local government procedures.
