Job description
Own your opportunity to turn data into measurable outcomes for our customers' most complex challenges. As a Data Engineer at GDIT, you'll power innovation to drive mission impact and grow your expertise to power your career forward., The Data Engineer is a hands-on technical expert responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that underpins the modernization of Command and Control (C2) systems. This role is foundational to all data-driven activities, directly supporting 10th AAMDC and USAREUR-AF missions by developing the scalable, secure, and high-performance data systems that enable real-time analytics. Crucially, this role serves as the primary engineering partner to the Data Science team, creating the robust pipelines and platforms they need to extract actionable intelligence and provide a decisive battlefield advantage.
- Mission-Focused Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and optimize robust ETL/ELT data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data from diverse sources, including real-time 10th AAMDC C2 systems, sensors, and other operational technologies.
- Big Data Infrastructure Management: Configure, manage, and optimize the command's big data infrastructure (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, Kafka), integrating systems across cloud, tactical edge, and on-premise environments to enable the seamless flow of mission-critical data.
- Data Architecture & Modeling: Architect and manage the Enterprise Data Warehouse, associated data marts, and Operational Data Stores. Implement physical data models that align with DoD data standards and develop comprehensive data dictionaries to ensure clarity and consistency.
- System Performance & Security: Ensure the high availability, reliability, and performance of all data systems supporting C2 applications. Handle large-scale, high-velocity data and implement rigorous security protocols and access controls compliant with DoD and Army standards. Documentation: Develop and maintain thorough documentation for all data pipelines, code, and architectural processes to ensure sustainability and knowledge transfer. Integration & Collaboration with Data Science:
- Work as the primary engineering partner to the Data Science team, translating their analytical requirements into technical specifications for data pipelines and infrastructure.
- Implement a data strategy that prioritizes data quality and availability, acting on direct feedback from the Data Science team to enhance the reliability and structure of data systems.
- Build and optimize data pipelines specifically designed to feed machine learning models, ensuring a seamless and efficient flow of data from raw source to the Data Scientist's analytical workflow.
- Lead the technical integration and testing of new data sources, partnering with the Data Science team to validate data for analytical use before full deployment.
