Principal Data Engineer

As a Principal Data Engineer, you will set the technical direction for Bitpanda's data ecosystem, ensuring it supports long-term business growth, regulatory needs, and data-driven decision-making at scale, while influencing engineering excellence across the organisation., * Define and own the long-term technical vision and architecture of Bitpanda's data landscape.

• You will collaborate closely with Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Product Engineering, and other Principal Engineers who are responsible for respective domains that produce data.
• Act as a company-wide technical authority for the whole data landscape (Data Engineering & BI Analytics), guiding major architectural and investment decisions.
• Drive alignment across engineering, product, compliance, and business stakeholders on data strategy and priorities.
• Establish and evolve standards and best practices for data quality, governance, security, and reliability across the organisation.
• Lead and influence strategic, cross-team initiatives critical to Bitpanda's business and regulatory goals. Mentor senior engineers and shape the technical culture of the Data and Engineering organisation.

• Demonstrated experience owning data platform strategy and architecture at scale in complex organisations, bonus points for FinTech/Banking.
• Act as the crucial link between product engineering and data teams, ensuring system evolution is guided by data-centric considerations.
• Strong background in modern data architectures and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Proven ability to influence without authority and operate across multiple teams and domains.
• Deep understanding of data governance, compliance, and risk considerations, ideally in regulated environments.
• Excellent communicator able to bridge business objectives and technical strategy at an executive level.
• Pragmatic, systems-oriented thinker comfortable making high-impact decisions under ambiguity.
