The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) is a pioneering collaboration between Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria, bring world-class medical education to a newly established medical school in Carlisle. Our unique four-year graduate entry programme, launched in August 2025, aims to fully support and prepare students for the demands of learning, assessment and their ongoing medical careers. We have created a bespoke and detailed curriculum and learning programme which is underpinned by a relational data model and associated processes., You will develop a deep understanding of the existing processes with a view to continual monitoring and improvement for efficiency and accuracy. You will become familiar with how the academic programme is structured and have technical responsibility for the management and dissemination of the underlying curriculum data, through creation and maintenance of reports.
The current data ecosystem is fully functional and in everyday use. It comprises elements of PowerQuery in Microsoft Excel, dataflows and PowerBI; PowerBI dashboard and reports; and customised reports in Report Builder. As our curriculum adapts and expands, and as Microsoft solutions change, each of these require upgrade and maintenance. We will have ongoing need for additional reports and interfaces to the support of academic and professional teams in curriculum development, assessment, timetabling, evaluation and quality assurance and support for student learning.
You will be expected to bring sufficient technical skill and experience to enable you to work autonomously to identify and manage data issues, and improve overall design. You will have the opportunity to bring fresh ideas and solutions to maximise the integrity and use of our data assets, including incorporation of AI tools.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Power BI?, * A-level education or equivalent, or equivalent experience in a similar or related role(s)
- Professional qualifications in Microsoft development
- Experience of developing and maintaining Power BI models and reports to manage and disseminate organisational data
- Experience monitoring data quality and resolving data integrity issues
- Experience of proactive and continuous improvement
- Strong initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use judgement and/or adapt in more complex situations
- Experience working in a higher education environment is desirable but not essential and we welcome candidates how have experience managing information in other sectors
