This newly created role will support the expansion of our small group of Data Scientists, who work within the larger Evidence Development team. This growth is being driven by rising client demand for data science expertise. As a member of this multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing our Data Science services for clients.
This role will be cross-functional, working predominantly with our Statistics, Literature Reviews, Engineering and Real-World Evidence (RWE) teams on a variety of project types. As one of the few Data Scientists at the company, you will be responsible for applying your expertise to our projects to suggest data science solutions to business problems.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Building Bespoke Web Applications and Interactive Tools:
- Collaborate with the Statistics team to create apps that display the results of analysis
- Build visual web applications that display health economic models
- Building Internal Tools and Automation of Processes:
- Assist in automation of data extraction and report generation
- Building and Managing Databases:
- Collaborate with the RWE team to create an internal data directory
- Develop databases and tools to facilitate data management
- Work with the Engineering team to build a literature management platform
- Expanding Service Offerings:
- Implement business development skills to identify machine learning opportunities with new or existing clients
- Support with data processing on RWE projects, which utilise data from a variety of sources (EHR, disease registries, claim databases etc.)
- Provide visualisation of healthcare data across multiple teams
Our standard working week is 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday, however, we can also consider applicants looking for part-time hours of at least 22.5 hours per week. Career Profile
Requirements

As this is a standalone role within the company, you need to demonstrate the initiative and responsibility for driving ideas forward, whilst considering the benefits of the outcome., * Experience working in a professional data science role in the healthcare sector. Candidates with postdoctoral research experience in the health data science field may also be considered
- A degree level or higher qualification in a STEM discipline (minimum 2.1)
- Expertise in programming languages (e.g. Python, R, SQL, HTML, CSS, Flask, SQL)
- Experience with the application of machine learning models and algorithms
- Knowledge and application of natural language processing techniques
- Excellent data visualisation skills
Essential non-technical requirements for the role:
- A passion for working in, and making a difference to, the healthcare sector
- Strong business acumen
- The ability to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders to understand their technical needs, propose tailored solutions, and to ensure project success and stakeholder satisfaction
- The ability to adapt and work independently on projects that span several teams
- Experience in implementing new processes and systems to support the integration and application of data science approaches
- A willingness to learn new technologies
Desired requirements for the role are:
- Experience working with sophisticated data visualisation libraries such as Matplotlib and Plotly in Python
- Experience in a consultancy role
- Experience with business development and identification of market opportunities for machine learning
- Experience with data science related tools (e.g. Shiny, D3, AWS, dbt)
- Experience with statistical/analytical methodologies and algorithms (e.g. classification, regression, clustering, feature selection/engineering, deep learning, time-series analysis, network analysis, hypothesis testing)

- Responsibilities: You will turn ideas into actionable business value for Costello Medical and clients by shaping and advancing data science services, leading cross-team initiatives, expanding machine learning/AI offerings, managing databases, and taking full ownership to drive ideas forward and deliver meaningful outcomes
- Salary: From £45,000 per annum. Individuals with extensive expertise may be considered for senior positions within the team, with both job title and salary range adjusted accordingly
