Job description
As our main data scientist focused on blockchain data analytics, you will provide visibility into the whole World ecosystem from an on-chain perspective. Your analyses will enable the Economics, Product, and Fraud-prevention teams as well as the World Foundation to make data-driven decisions that touch upon all aspects of the World ecosystem. You will be responsible for (1) designing and implementing analyses that are based on on-chain data or combine on-chain data with internal data; (2) communicating the results of your analyses, both internally and publicly; (3) proactively identifying valuable questions, data sources, and analysis methodologies; (4) expanding and improving our blockchain analytics data pipeline together with the analytics engineering team. You will work collaboratively with economists, software developers, data engineers, and business analysts. Your work will directly impact World's resource allocation across various dimensions.
In this role, you will:
- Develop a deep understanding of the World Ecosystem, in particular World Chain, its DeFi protocols, World ID, and its interaction with World App and on-chain service providers, by working closely with the protocol, crypto engineering, fraud prevention, and data engineering teams, as well as the World Foundation.
- Collaborate in a high-performing department with multiple professors and PhDs on the team.
- Design and implement detailed analyses that are based on or include on-chain data, and serve as the central point of contact for such analyses for business intelligence needs.
- Create deep statistical analyses that use on-chain data to understand causal drivers of user activity and evaluate interventions such as UX changes and incentive programs.
- Design and implement enrichments to the fraud & risk analytics data pipeline and create decision making tools using on-chain data, and continuously advance these analytics.
- Build and maintain scalable and consistent data pipelines for blockchain data. You will independently design and create improvements to the blockchain data pipeline, incorporating new analysis angles, data sources, and data processing and analysis methodologies.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Spark?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Advanced degree (MSc, PhD is a plus) in a technical field such as computer science, economics, mathematics, or physics.
- Experience working in a leading data role in a web3/crypto start-up. Founder experience is a plus.
- Strong experience analyzing blockchain data, including raw data and DeFi data.
- Advanced working knowledge of common data analysis frameworks, including SQL and python. Experience working with Dune is a plus.
- Good understanding of how the EVM and smart contracts work and ability to read and understand Solidity.
- Strong knowledge of the technical functions and high-level economic concepts of different DeFi protocols.
- Ability to independently scope analytical work, refine questions, and gain insights, even when the initial question is vague. Ability to interpret and question results.
- Ability to communicate insights and make recommendations based on data to diverse stakeholders and executives, some of whom may not have a data background; skill managing cross-functional relationships.
- As a plus: Experience setting up data analysis pipelines and ingesting, transforming, and combining data from different sources, on- and off-chain, using common tools (e.g., python jobs, dbt, fivetran, airbyte, etc.), and/or experience working with data/computation infrastructure (e.g., spark, flink) and/or experience working with alternative analysis frameworks (e.g., graph analytics).
- As a plus: Background in economics/finance, especially on the blockchain (e.g., equilibrium analysis, market friction, DeFi protocol design, asset pricing, gas markets).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to analytical correctness.
- An orientation towards practical results and a "getting-the-job-done" mindset, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced and continuously evolving environment.
