Job description
Our infrastructure is the vital foundation of our secure, high-performance payments platform. As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will manage the critical hardware and physical connectivity that powers our global platform, ensuring robust, organized, and scalable processes across our international sites. This role bridges the gap between physical data centers, cloud providers, and the specialized cryptographic hardware that secures our global financial transactions.
We're looking for a proactive Engineer who thrives in a hybrid environment. You will balance strategic remote infrastructure management with essential on-site engineering, understanding the mission-critical nature of physical layer integrity. You will be a key steward of our physical footprint-from racks and high-speed networking to the security and cryptographic system that protect our most sensitive data. Whether you are coordinating with remote "Smart Hands" or performing on-site audits, you ensure our installations meet the rigorous PCI DSS standards required for secure, high-volume payment processing., * Manage the Physical Lifecycle: Lead the end-to-end deployment of hardware within our data centers -including, networking equipment and security hardware. While you'll be on-site roughly once a month on average, you'll own the "rack and stack" strategy and decommissioning lifecycle.
- Master Cryptographic Infrastructure: Act as a key technical resource for our security environment. You will lead the deployment and maintenance of the hardware that secures our encryption keys, ensuring these critical devices are always performant and compliant.
- Coordinate Global Operations: Seamlessly transition between on-site engineering and remote management. Provide clear instructions and oversight to Data Centre Smart Hands to ensure global remote tasks are executed to our exact standards.
- Bridge Physical and Logical Networking: Work closely alongside our network engineers to plan and execute configuration changes on network and firewall equipment, ensuring seamless connectivity between our physical sites and cloud environments.
- Liaise with Connectivity Partners: Act as a technical contact for external providers and card schemes, ensuring new circuits and cross-connects are provisioned and tested to specification.
- Maintain the Source of Truth: Take responsibility for our infrastructure inventory (NetBox), ensuring every rack, cable and device is meticulously documented and automated.
- Drive Compliance & Response: Contribute towards regular audits to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements. Act as a first line of defense for physical infrastructure issues, performing troubleshooting and hardware replacements to minimize downtime.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Software development?, * Infrastructure Versatility: Proven experience in data centre environments with a solid understanding of power, cooling, and structured cabling. Also understands the importance of IAC (Infrastructure as Code) and the role of the CI/CD process.
- Networking Fundamentals: Solid knowledge to a CCNA level, including a clear understanding of the OSI model, VLANs, switching, and routing. Experience with cloud networking is a plus.
- Vendor & Project Management: Experience working directly with third-party service providers including connectivity and smart hands to drive projects to completion.
- Compliance Awareness: A firm understanding of data centre security best practice, and awareness of the compliance standards that matter most in the financial services industry.
- Tooling Proficiency: Experience using DCIM tools (such as NetBox) and observability platforms (such as Datadog or LogicMonitor).
Highly Desirable:
- Fintech Experience: Prior experience in high-growth financial or payment environments. Alternatively, experience in a high sensitivity, low downtime, production environment with tight change control.
- Scripting/Software Development Experience: Experience leveraging scripting or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles with version control experience.
- Cryptography Interest: A strong desire to work with Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and be involved in the key management lifecycle. You don't need to be a cryptographer, but you must be comfortable managing the hardware that handles our most sensitive data and have a desire to grow into this area.
Personal Qualities:
- Strong analytical capabilities and a "security-first" mindset.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with remote teams and external partners.
- Ability to work independently and manage the logistics of a global infrastructure footprint.
- Desire to be exposed to multiple mission critical technologies
