Job description

As a Systems Engineer, you are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining systems and solutions that meet the needs of our clients and users within the rail domain. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, implement solutions, and ensure the scalability, testability, reliability, and performance of our products and solutions., Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, customers and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into technical specifications
  • Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and other engineering issues
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project
  • Understand and follow the project delivery processes, methodologies, and use the defined tools as set out in the Hitachi Rail SRS UK Management System and the project specific Engineering Management Plans
  • Design and develop solutions using industry best practice
  • Conduct User Needs Analysis and contribute to the development of the concept solution
  • Carry out requirements capture, requirements analysis and requirements management
  • Participate in Value Engineering and contributing to technical trade-off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features
  • Generate System Specifications using relevant modelling and design techniques
  • Produce interface designs and specifications
  • Produce test plans, specifications and scripts in collaboration with IVVQ engineers and testers
  • Support Work Package Managers with timely provision of status, accurate measurement of progress and forecasting of remaining work and by identifying change, variation, risk and opportunity to the work package manager wherever the scope of works is impacted

Requirements

  • Experience in Systems development, with a strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and methodologies
  • Ability to use design tools to produce complex designs
  • Experience of working in an engineering environment and understanding of engineering delivery methodologies
  • Understanding of configuration control
  • Ability to use system engineering tools, such as requirements management (DOORS/Polarion) and Melody Advance or Enterprise Architect (SyML, UML)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues
  • Keep up to date with the latest technologies, tools, and trends in systems development
  • Excellent communication skills in all forms and at all levels
  • Collaborative and strong working within a multi-disciplined team
  • Excellent stakeholder management
