Job description

Head Resourcing are pleased to be working with a highly regarded company in Edinburgh who are looking for an experienced Lead Solution Architect to define and deliver modern, scalable architectures built on microservices and event-driven patterns. You'll guide architecture decisions for a platform or innovation-focused environment, enabling engineering teams to deliver quickly and safely. Working closely with Product Owners, delivery teams, and enterprise-level architecture colleagues, you'll ensure solutions are maintainable, resilient, and aligned to longer-term technology direction., * Define target architectures and roadmaps that support strategic outcomes, with a strong emphasis on microservices and event-based designs.

  • Lead solution design for complex initiatives, translating business needs into clear, pragmatic technical approaches.
  • Partner with Product Owners and engineering teams to remove friction, accelerate delivery, and ensure architectural alignment.
  • Establish and promote engineering patterns, standards, and reference designs that improve consistency and quality.
  • Ensure solutions meet expectations for governance, quality, risk management, and controlled change.
  • Mentor and coach engineers and architects, building strong technical communities and raising the bar on engineering practice.
  • Contribute to long-term technology strategy by developing methods and frameworks that optimise delivery, cost, and platform performance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in architecture and engineering, designing cloud-native and microservices-based solutions.
  • Strong hands-on background (e.g., software engineering) with a solid grasp of build, deployment, and modern delivery practices.
  • Experience designing event-driven systems and integration approaches (e.g., messaging/streaming patterns).
  • Track record of modernising legacy or monolithic applications into more modular, service-oriented ecosystems.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills-able to "tell the story" of an architecture and bring stakeholders with you.
  • Practical experience defining and rolling out standards, patterns, and engineering best practices across teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills; able to energise and align cross-functional groups.
