Job description
Data & Automation Engineer, Central AI Lab The Vesta Software Group acquires, manages, and builds software companies in a variety of vertical markets, enabling them to be clear leaders in their industries. Our companies provide mission-critical enterprise solutions for vertical industries across the entire industry value chain. The Vesta Software Group Limited is all about strengthening businesses within the markets in which we compete and enabling them to grow - whether through organic measures such as new initiatives and product development, day-to-day business, or through acquisitions. Position Deliver workflow automation and practical data operations that enable repeatable AI solutions across Vesta Business Units (BUs), within a BU-led, central-enabled, tool-agnostic operating model. You will build reusable workflow components, practical ingestion and data plumbing patterns, and operational measurement templates that help BUs get to production value quickly and then operate independently., What you will deliver:
- Workflow automation assets: reusable automations and copilots that can be adopted by multiple BUs (not just one-off builds).
- Data plumbing for AI delivery: ingestion, transformation, and ops-friendly pipelines-especially for knowledge base readiness and ongoing maintenance of AI-enabled workflows.
- Operational templates: measurement dashboards/templates so BUs can track adoption, quality, and ROI without reinventing the process.
- Handover artifacts: runbooks, implementation playbooks, configuration guidance, and deployment notes aligned to the Central AI Lab's "build once, deploy many" approach.
Responsibilities Workflow automation (tool-agnostic, Microsoft-friendly):
- Design and build workflow automations and copilots that reduce manual effort and improve consistency (approvals, triage, routing, summarisation, CRM hygiene, support workflows).
- Where BU environments are Microsoft-centric, use Copilot Studio and Power Automate as first-class tools; where they are not, deliver equivalent automations using APIs, scripts, and lightweight services.
- Integrate automations with BU systems (ticketing, CRM, telephony, docs/KB, and line-of-business apps) using connectors or direct API integrations.
- Ensure automations support sensible human-in-the-loop controls and clear auditability where needed.
Data operations for AI workflows (practical, not "warehouse-first"):
- Build and maintain ingestion routines for documents, tickets, call/email artefacts and other operational sources into structured stores suitable for AI workflows (knowledge stores, search indexes).
- Implement lightweight data-quality checks and operational monitoring (freshness, failure alerts, basic lineage, usage telemetry).
- Maintain and improve ingestion patterns so they can be reused across BUs with minimal custom work.
- Support operational reporting patterns that measure workflow adoption and outcomes (volume trends, contact-driver summaries, cycle-time metrics).
Governance-by-design and production readiness:
- Work within approved tools, access controls, and internal governance constraints; design solutions safe to roll out across multiple BUs.
- Implement practical ALM and release hygiene: environments, versioning, access control, logging, and safe rollback.
- Work in small, verifiable increments-"done" means objective proof (tests/checks, validated runtime behaviour).
- Build and document safe failure modes (timeouts, fallbacks, manual override paths).
Enablement and BU handover:
- Operate in a central-enable model: central builds shared patterns and templates; BU teams wire in local integrations and own day-to-day operations after handover.
- Produce BU-ready artefacts: runbooks, troubleshooting guides, configuration notes, short internal case-study write-ups.
- Support lightweight training and knowledge transfer so BUs can operate and extend what was delivered.
Requirements
Do you have experience in SQL?, Must-have experience / capabilities:
- 3+ years delivering workflow automation and/or integration work in an enterprise setting.
- Strong practical integration skills: REST APIs, authentication concepts, data mapping, handling messy real-world process inputs.
- At least one of:
- Deep experience with Power Automate / Copilot Studio / Power Platform (preferred), or
- Equivalent workflow automation in non-Microsoft stacks (and willingness to operate in M365 where needed).
- Working knowledge of data handling for operational systems: SQL basics, data shaping/transformations, pipeline reliability patterns.
- Good engineering hygiene: version control, change control, testing/validation checks, documentation.
- Comfortable operating across heterogeneous BU environments (cloud, on-prem, legacy constraints) and choosing tools pragmatically.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Azure services commonly used for automation/integration (Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus) or AWS equivalents.
- Familiarity with knowledge workflows (document ingestion, metadata extraction, search indexing, RAG fundamentals).
- Power Platform governance/CoE exposure (DLP, environments, solution packaging).
- Basic observability and cost-awareness patterns for production automation.
Your Personal Characteristics Will Include:
- A hands-on, delivery-focused engineer who communicates clearly and collaborates well across BUs.
- You are pragmatic, adaptable, inclusive, curious, and committed to good engineering hygiene.
- You balance speed with reliability, enabling reusable automation and data patterns that deliver real business value and can be adopted independently by BU teams.
