Job description
Balfour Beatty are looking for a GIS Lead to join their Power T&D team in Derby., The GIS Lead is responsible for overseeing all Geographic Information Systems (GIS) activities across infrastructure and engineering projects. This includes managing spatial data, leading GIS strategy and delivery, supporting project teams with mapping and analysis, and integrating GIS with BIM, CAD, and other digital platforms. What you'll be doing, Lead the delivery of GIS requirements internally and externally across projects.
- Lead and manage GIS data creation, validation, and delivery systems.
- Lead, advise and develop GIS teams across the organisation.
- Develop and maintain GIS-based map outputs and dashboards.
- Oversee GIS licensing and ensure compliance with software usage policies.
- Convert and manage data between coordinate systems and projections.
- Advise on GIS, CAD, and survey data integration across the business.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of spatial data across all project phases.
- Collaborate with BIM, CAD, and design teams to convert and integrate data formats.
- Provide training and support to GIS users across the business.
- Manage additional GIS resources and coordinate team activities.
- Manage production of 2D CAD drawings and 3D models using GIS or CAD Software.
- Investigate and implement new geospatial technologies to improve efficiency.
- Ensure compliance of data and of data security policies.
- Ensure compliance with IT policies and procedures.
- Represent GIS at internal and external forums and stakeholder meetings.
- Promote GIS adoption and awareness across all levels of the organisation.
Requirements
Do you have experience in QGIS?, The following qualities/experience are essential:
- 15-20 years + in delivering GIS solutions in multiple industries.
- Highly Proficient in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and/or ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Strong experience of using geospatial tools for editing and analysis.
- Experience with QGIS and other open-source GIS platforms.
- Strong understanding of spatial data structures and geospatial analysis.
- Experience with LiDAR data and geospatial 3D modelling.
- Ability to produce high-quality map outputs and visualisations.
- Familiarity with Common Data Environments (CDEs) and information management systems.
- Line Management Experience and staff development.
- Experience in training and supporting GIS users.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- interest and engagement with the wider geospatial industry.
- Experience in infrastructure, environmental, or construction sectors.
- Knowledge of survey coordinate systems and georeferencing techniques.
- Familiarity with other ESRI platform products and apps.
- Understanding of BIM workflows and integration with GIS.
- Knowledge of FME and coding for GIS.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, or related discipline is preferrable.
- Professional certification is an advantage.
