Job description

We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented PHP / WordPress Designer-Developer to support ongoing website updates and improvements across our internal properties and a small portfolio of client websites.

You'll work closely with ODI's leadership, project managers, and occasionally clients to implement design tweaks, content updates, plugin enhancements, and light custom development., WordPress Development & Maintenance

  • Build, update, and maintain WordPress websites using PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Customize themes and plugins to meet design and functional requirements
  • Implement ongoing website updates (content changes, layout adjustments, new pages, forms, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve WordPress, plugin, and theme issues

Design & UX Support

  • Make design-forward updates that improve usability, responsiveness, and overall look & feel
  • Translate Figma / design references or high-level direction into clean WordPress implementations
  • Ensure sites are mobile-responsive and cross-browser compatible

Performance, Security & Best Practices

  • Optimize site performance (page speed, images, caching, plugins)
  • Maintain WordPress security best practices and updates
  • Ensure clean, maintainable code and proper backups

Client & Internal Collaboration

  • Work with ODI team members to scope, estimate, and execute website tasks
  • Occasionally communicate directly with clients to clarify requirements or review changes
  • Manage multiple small to medium tasks across different websites

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on WordPress development experience
  • Strong PHP experience specifically within WordPress
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Proficiency in WooCommerce and MySQL
  • Experience customizing themes and plugins (not just using page builders)
  • Strong eye for design, layout, spacing, and UX details
  • Experience with responsive design and mobile optimization
  • Familiarity with common WordPress plugins (ACF, Elementor/Gutenberg, security, caching, forms, etc.)
  • Comfortable working independently and managing priorities across multiple sites, * Experience working with agencies or multiple client websites
  • Experience with hosting environments (WP Engine, SiteGround, AWS, etc.)
  • Basic SEO and performance optimization knowledge
  • Git / version control experience
