Job description
We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented PHP / WordPress Designer-Developer to support ongoing website updates and improvements across our internal properties and a small portfolio of client websites.
This is not a one-off project role. We're looking for someone who can act as a long-term extension of our team-owning website changes, proactively improving UX/UI, and ensuring sites remain fast, secure, and well-maintained.
You'll work closely with ODI's leadership, project managers, and occasionally clients to implement design tweaks, content updates, plugin enhancements, and light custom development., WordPress Development & Maintenance
- Build, update, and maintain WordPress websites using PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Customize themes and plugins to meet design and functional requirements
- Implement ongoing website updates (content changes, layout adjustments, new pages, forms, etc.)
- Troubleshoot and resolve WordPress, plugin, and theme issues
Design & UX Support
- Make design-forward updates that improve usability, responsiveness, and overall look & feel
- Translate Figma / design references or high-level direction into clean WordPress implementations
- Ensure sites are mobile-responsive and cross-browser compatible
Performance, Security & Best Practices
- Optimize site performance (page speed, images, caching, plugins)
- Maintain WordPress security best practices and updates
- Ensure clean, maintainable code and proper backups
Client & Internal Collaboration
- Work with ODI team members to scope, estimate, and execute website tasks
- Occasionally communicate directly with clients to clarify requirements or review changes
- Manage multiple small to medium tasks across different websites
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on WordPress development experience
- Strong PHP experience specifically within WordPress
- Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Proficiency in WooCommerce and MySQL
- Experience customizing themes and plugins (not just using page builders)
- Strong eye for design, layout, spacing, and UX details
- Experience with responsive design and mobile optimization
- Familiarity with common WordPress plugins (ACF, Elementor/Gutenberg, security, caching, forms, etc.)
- Comfortable working independently and managing priorities across multiple sites, * Experience working with agencies or multiple client websites
- Experience with hosting environments (WP Engine, SiteGround, AWS, etc.)
- Basic SEO and performance optimization knowledge
- Git / version control experience
