Job description

Senior Data Professional & Governance Lead required for a National organisation

£700 per day 6-month Contract (Umbrella only) Hybrid

Your new company

We are a well-established national organisation undergoing a significant transformation of our digital, data and information landscape. As part of a major modernisation programme, we are investing in new data capabilities, stronger governance frameworks and a technically robust data architecture to support future growth and service redesign. This is a rare opportunity to take technical and strategic ownership of a mission-critical data initiative, shaping the foundations of a new enterprise-wide data environment that will support thousands of colleagues and service users across the UK.

Your new role

As Head of Data and Governance Lead, you will define, design and deliver the organisation's future state data architecture while strengthening our approach to data governance, legal compliance and information management. You will lead on enterprise-level architectural design, integration patterns, system interoperability and the development of a unified data ecosystem. Alongside the technical work, you will take ownership of data governance frameworks, GDPR-compliant processes, legal data handling standards and the creation of a consolidated Information Asset Register. You will work closely with senior leaders, technology teams and external partners to ensure our future operating model is supported by a scalable, secure and compliant data environment. From shaping long-term data strategy to delivering hands-on solution design, you will be the technical authority driving this transformation forward.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an experienced Data leader and Data architect with governance expertise and a strong background in delivering enterprise data solutions within complex organisations. You will bring deep technical expertise in data architecture, modelling, integration design, cloud data platforms, data warehousing and API-driven interoperability. You should be confident designing privacy-by-design solutions, interpreting GDPR and data-protection obligations, and leading on Information Governance standards. A strong understanding of information asset management is essential, including experience building or consolidating an Information Asset Register. You will be comfortable defining data migration approaches, rationalising multi-system estates and guiding senior stakeholders through complex technical decisions. Excellent communication skills, independence and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving transformation programme will be key to your success.

What you'll get in return

This is a contract with meaningful impact. You will have the opportunity to architect a modern, scalable data landscape from the ground up and influence governance frameworks that will support the organisation for years to come. Alongside a competitive daily rate, you will enjoy flexible working arrangements, significant autonomy and the satisfaction of contributing to a transformative programme that will materially enhance the organisation's digital maturity.
