Job description
This is a backend-focused role. You'll be building and maintaining PHP applications, working primarily server-side whilst collaborating with our front-end developers where needed., Working under the direction of Head of Technical, you will:
- Build and maintain backend PHP applications and websites, including our own CMS
- Integrate server-side logic with front-end interfaces in collaboration with our front-end developers
- Troubleshoot, test, and maintain core product software and databases to support performance, scalability, and reliability
- Triage support requests from clients and implement bug fixes on existing projects
- Optimise applications for speed, scalability, and maintainability
- Write clean, well-structured code and contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle
- Collaborate with other team members and consult with clients to gather requirements and design solutions
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to bring innovative solutions to the team
Requirements

- Talented professionals who can manage customer expectations and speak in their language, * Solid PHP skills with 1 to 3 years of commercial experience
- Experience with at least one PHP framework. We currently use CodeIgniter here, but experience with others (especially Laravel) is welcome
- Good MySQL knowledge, including schema design and building database-driven web applications
- Understanding of OO and MVC programming and design patterns
- Awareness of best practice security, testing and bug fixing principles
- A working understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sufficient for collaborating with front-end developers
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and troubleshooting technical issues
- Using Git effectively for version control and collaborative workflows
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
- Self-motivated and able to manage time effectively to meet deadlines
- A passion for learning and staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies
- High proficiency in English
- A friendly and approachable personality
- Jargon-free communication skills and a genuine interest in the success of our clients
Some experience, qualities and skills which would help your application:
- Hands-on experience with CodeIgniter and/or Laravel
- Some exposure to Linux server environments
- Some exposure to Docker or Docker Compose for development environments
- WordPress and/or Shopify development experience
- Proactive attitude toward improving development processes and code quality
- Qualifications in a Web or Software Development, Marketing or Business related field (A Level or Degree equivalent)
- Understanding of SEO for content marketing, use of structured data and search console
- Tag Manager, consent mechanisms, analytics and conversion tracking
- Accessibility and usability best practices
- Email marketing experience
- Keen interest in marketing and a desire to learn and grow in this field
