Job description
The AEM Architect is accountable for the stability, evolution, and optimisation of an existing global Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) platform. With AEM already live across multiple countries and brands, this role focuses on platform health, efficiency, governance, and continuous improvement, ensuring the platform remains compliant, scalable, and fit for long-term use.
This role acts as the global technical authority for AEM, enabling safe and efficient change across regions while reducing risk, cost, and technical debt.
Scope and Accountability
- Global AEM platform supporting multiple regions, languages
- Enterprise-scale, regulated digital environment
- Ongoing change, optimisation, and modernisation
- Influence across global and regional teams and external partners, Platform Architecture & Evolution
- Own the current-state and target-state architecture for the AEM landscape
- Define and maintain a platform roadmap focused on stability, optimisation, and future readiness
- Drive convergence toward global standards across regional implementations
- Stability, Performance & Reliability
Improve platform stability, resilience, and performance
- Identify root causes of recurring incidents and performance issues
- Define standards for logging, monitoring, error handling, dispatcher, and CDN configuration
- Partner with DevOps, infrastructure teams, and Adobe support to reduce operational risk
- Change Governance & Continuous Improvement
Act as architectural authority for significant platform changes
- Ensure changes are low risk, backward compatible, and standards-aligned
- Enable regional enhancements without fragmenting the core platform
- Support predictable, auditable release and deployment processes
Efficiency & Optimisation
- Drive efficiencies in authoring e xperience, content reuse, and development processes
- Reduce duplication of components, templates, and custom code across regions
- Optimise AEM Cloud usage, performance, and cost at global scale
- Improve developer productivity through reusable patterns and guidance
Technical Debt & Modernisation
- Maintain a global technical debt register and prioritisation approach
- Lead refactoring and modernisation initiatives
- Remove Legacy patterns and simplify complex customisations
- Guide adoption of modern AEM capabilities, including headless or hybrid approaches where appropriate
Governance, Compliance & Standards
- Define and enforce global standards for templates, components, content models, and MSM usage
- Balance global consistency with regional autonomy
- Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory, privacy, and accessibility requirements
- Support audits and platform risk assessments
Collaboration & Leadership
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to global and regional stakeholders
- Provide architectural leadership across distributed, international teams
- Govern and guide system integrators and agency partners
- Mentor regional technical leads and developers
Requirements
Essential
- Extensive e xperience in enterprise digital platforms
- Deep hands-on AEM expertise in large-scale, live environments
- Strong knowledge of AEM Sites, Assets, MSM, Java, Sling Models, OSGi, HTL
- Experience operating and optimising AEM as a Cloud Service or large AMS estates
- Proven e xperience supporting multi-country, multi-language platforms
Desirable
- Adobe AEM Architect or Lead Developer certification
- Experience in pharma, life sciences, or other regulated industries
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines, Cloud Manager, and MarTech integrations
