Staff Backend Engineer (Scala) - Remote Work

We're looking for a Staff Backend Engineer who writes Scala and has spent serious time inside the backend of distributed data processing systems - not just using them, but understanding how they work, where they break, and how to make them better. You bring deep stream and batch processing knowledge, strong JVM performance instincts, and the cross-team influence to set the technical bar for the engineers around you. You'll be working on the backend infrastructure of open source data platform technology trusted by leading enterprises worldwide.

What You'll Do:

• Architect and build backend components in Scala for distributed stream and batch data processing infrastructure.
• Own technical direction for backend data platform systems and drive best practices across engineering teams.
• Apply expert-level JVM knowledge to optimize the performance and reliability of backend processing components.
• Identify and resolve complex distributed system failures and performance bottlenecks in production.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives and collaborate with platform teams to deliver high-impact backend improvements.
• Mentor engineers and support technical growth across the backend data platform organization.

Do you have experience in Scala?, * 7+ years of experience in IT roles.

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems with Scala as the primary language.
• Deep background in distributed systems architecture and large-scale data processing.
• Expert knowledge of stream and batch processing internals and production operations.
• Strong JVM performance skills applied to high-throughput backend systems.
• Apache ecosystem contribution experience is a plus.
• Proven cross-team technical leadership at a Staff or equivalent level.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
