Job Title: Technical Architect Location: Remote with 1-2 days onsite per month at Government Technical Hubs Contract Type: 6-month rolling contract Inside IR35: Yes Day Rate: £600 per day Clearance: BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check required
Role Overview
An experienced Technical Architect is required to lead the design and oversight of complex technical solutions within a large central government transformation programme. This role provides strategic technical direction across multiple products and platforms, ensuring all solutions align with organisational objectives, architectural standards, and governance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Architectural design and assurance across multiple systems, services, and delivery teams.
- Set the strategic technical direction, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and long-term goals.
- Support technical governance and chair or contribute to architectural decision-making forums.
- Define and promote architecture principles, patterns, and standards across the organisation.
- Act as a technical advisor, providing expert guidance to stakeholders, delivery leadership, and cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with data, solution, and security architects to ensure end-to-end coherence of technical designs.
- Oversee the evaluation of emerging technologies and contribute to continuous improvement across digital services.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Technical Architect or equivalent within large-scale or government transformation programmes.
- Strong background in solution and enterprise architecture, with demonstrable design leadership across complex systems.
- Proficiency in cloud architecture (eg, AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern engineering practices such as microservices, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Sound understanding of security, interoperability, and performance considerations in public sector environments.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and technical teams.
- Familiarity with government technology standards (eg, GDS, architectural governance, Service Manual) is advantageous.
