Job description

Job Title: Data Architect Location: Remote with 1-2 days onsite per month at Government Technical Hubs Contract Type: 6-month rolling contract Inside IR35: Yes Day Rate: £625 per day Clearance: BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check required

Role Overview

An experienced Data Architect is required to support a major transformation programme within a large central government organisation. The role involves defining the vision, structure, and standards for how data is designed, managed, and used, ensuring solutions align with enterprise data architecture principles and promote consistency across systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain data architectures, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Define and oversee data governance standards, data dictionaries, and metadata frameworks.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret organisational data needs and design effective data solutions.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical leadership on all data architecture activities across multiple projects.
  • Work closely with technical architects, data engineers, and product teams to ensure systems are data-compliant and interoperable.
  • Promote and enforce high-quality data management and integration practices across delivery teams.
  • Ensure all data solutions comply with government security, privacy, and accessibility standards.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience as a Data Architect within large, complex organisations.
  • Strong technical background in data modelling, data standards, and data governance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to design data integration and interoperability solutions across multiple systems.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern data technologies (eg, Kafka, SQL, NoSQL).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into clear architectural deliverables.
  • Familiarity with public sector data standards, best practices, and assurance processes is advantageous.
