Under the overall guidance from the the Senior Programme Officer (Wildlife Conservation) the Project Associate (GIS Analyst) will be part of a diversified team and will be responsible for implementing the project activities in the field., Under the overall guidance of the Senior Programme Officer Wildlife Conservation, the Project Associate (GIS Analyst) will undertake following specific responsibilities: -Provide GIS and spatial analysis support for species distribution mapping and habitat assessment and restoration monitoring under CRIS project, following approved methodology. -Compile, clean, and process geospatial data from various sources (satellite imagery, field GPS data, remote sensing datasets, etc.), ensuring data accuracy, standardization, and metadata compliance. -Assist the M&E Focal Point and the Project Manager with indicator tracking, data collection and analysis, quality assurance, and timely reporting following M&E framework of the project. -Prepare high-quality maps and visual materials for field assessments, technical reports, and publications including geo-referenced restoration maps for project reporting. -Support spatial data integration into the project database and ensure data consistency and standardization, data consistency, traceability, and security. -Develop geospatial layers, shapefiles, and metadata following IUCN and project-specific standards. -Support geospatial analysis for identifying restoration sites and monitoring vegetation recovery over time. -Maintain organized spatial databases and ensure secure data storage and backup. -Provide overall management and logistical support to the Project Manager in planning, implementation, and reporting of project activities. -Track the progress of project deliverables and ensure timely submission of species assessments and other outputs. -Support the project team in field surveys, data collection, analysis, and preparation of reports and scientific papers using approved data collection methods and handheld GPS devices. -Support the project team in preparing progress reports, meeting notes, and other required documentation according to donor and IUCN guidelines. -Maintain proper documentation of all project activities, correspondence, and data archives for review and audit purposes. -Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior Programme Officer Wildlife Conservation and the Country Representative of IUCN Bangladesh to ensure the successful completion of project objectives.
Requirements
- Education -With 4-6 years experience in relevant field; some managerial skills preferred. Master's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Forestry, Zoology, URP or other related fields from a reputed University or institution with a strong academic track record. Bachelor's degree with additional two (02) years of experience demonstrating strong relevant skills will be considered.
*Training and Experience -At least five (05) years' professional experience relevant to the assignment as defined in the terms of reference. -Good presentation skills; -Advanced training in GIS and geospatial analysis; -Strong practical experience with GIS software and tools, particularly QGIS and/or ArcGIS, including spatial data management, map production, and spatial analysis; -Hands-on experience with remote sensing and earth observation data, such as satellite imagery (Landsat, Sentinel), land-use/land-cover analysis, change detection, and basic image classification; -Experience in field data collection and integration, including GPS-based surveys, mobile data collection tools (e.g., KoBo/ODK), and linking spatial data with socio-environmental datasets; -Proven ability to apply GIS in development or environmental projects, including producing decision-support maps, technical reports, and working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders; -Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop);
*Other Competencies -Ability to proactively learn (coachability), observe, and adapt in line with project objectives and evolving communication needs. -Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders. -Good time management, task prioritization, and multitasking skills, with attention to detail. -Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within teams, as and when required. -Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly in dynamic project environments -Demonstrated ability to function as a team player with strong work ethics and a cooperative mindset.
