Job description

Work set up: HybridOur client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a PostgreSQL DBA to support database administration, management, and optimization across enterprise data environments. The role focuses on managing and maintaining databases including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Oracle while ensuring data integrity, security, availability, and performance. This position involves collaborating with development and operational teams to support distributed data processing environments, maintain database reliability, and contribute to the design and implementation of effective database solutions.What you will do:

  • Administer and maintain databases including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
  • Manage a database administration team and coordinate database-related activities.
  • Work with database software to store, organize, and manage data effectively.
  • Apply expert knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL data stores across structures including JSON and XML.
  • Support distributed data processing technologies including Oracle, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL.
  • Maintain database systems, perform updates, and troubleshoot database issues.
  • Support database design and development activities.
  • Manage database access controls and permissions.
  • Design and implement database maintenance procedures.
  • Liaise with programmers, applications and operational staff, IT project managers, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Manage database security, integrity, and backup procedures while implementing appropriate security measures.
  • Write reports, documentation, and operating manuals related to database systems.
  • Test and modify databases to ensure reliable performance and operation.
  • Develop disaster recovery plans and manage archiving and housekeeping of data.
  • Support cloud-based environments and serverless architecture where applicable.
  • Apply software design patterns appropriately within database solutions.
  • Work within Agile and DevOps software development environments.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to team members where required.
  • Support operational and production support activities for database systems.
  • Contribute to data streaming or event-based environments where technologies such as Kafka are used.

Requirements

  • Contractor must be eligible for BPSS clearance.
  • Hands-on experience in database administration with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
  • Experience managing or coordinating database administration teams.
  • Strong expertise in RDBMS and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Experience working with distributed data processing technologies.
  • Experience maintaining databases, troubleshooting issues, and supporting database development.
  • Knowledge of database security, backup strategies, and integrity management.
  • Experience designing and implementing database maintenance procedures.
  • Experience collaborating with developers, operational teams, and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to create technical documentation, reports, and operating manuals.
  • Experience testing and optimizing database performance.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and data archiving practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and serverless architectures.
  • Understanding of software design patterns and their application.
  • Knowledge of Kafka is advantageous.
  • Experience working in Agile or DevOps environments.
  • Ability to mentor team members and support operational activities.
