Job description
- You develop and implement scalable semantic data solutions for global R&D teams using data engineering, ETL processes, big data analytics, and NLP pipelines in collaboration with internal and external partners
- You establish and optimize sustainable, efficient, and scalable data processes as well as semantic data processing applications. In doing so, you identify technical gaps and help significantly shorten the time from data collection to insight generation
- You analyze, assemble, and maintain large unstructured scientific datasets and prepare them for various analysis and business processes using fit-for-purpose, interoperable data flow systems
- You support the analysis of large, complex data sets to generate actionable insights for research and development-for example using GUIs, scientific workflows, machine learning, or advanced analytics
- You contribute to the optimization of internal R&D processes through automation and advanced data analytics
- You work closely with data scientists and data engineers to ensure data quality and algorithmic quality within central semantic platforms
- You act as a subject-matter expert for the integration of large-scale semantic data products into central R&D systems and cultivate a strong internal and external scientific network to ensure capability excellence

Requirements
- You hold a Master's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, or a comparable field with several years of professional experience, or a PhD with 1-2 years of experience in life science applications, ideally in the pharmaceutical industry
- You have expert profiency in data engineering and in integrating heterogeneous data sources
- You have expert proficiency of big data technologies and advanced analytics methods for processing large and unstructured datasets
- You have practical experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Elasticsearch, Neo4J, PostgreSQL)
- You have programming skills in Python and/or Java and experience with REST APIs, JSON, and XML
- You have experience with information extraction using NLP and large language models and large language models in hyper-scalable Lambda architectures
- You have experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Azure) and version control systems
- You have knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, data asset management, linked data concepts, and ontologies/taxonomies; ideally you also have experience with data quality, data cleaning, and user-centered design
- You have a good understanding of pharmaceutical R&D processes and the ability to quickly learn biological, chemical, or medical concepts
- You are a team-oriented and interdisciplinary professional with strong communication, networking, and problem-solving skills, have a passion for data engineering, and speak fluent English
