Job description

As Technology Developer, you will design, model and optimise pyrolysis processes, including reactor concepts, heating systems and feedstock preparation. You will develop and refine post-treatment strategies such as product upgrading, gas conditioning and char treatment with the aim of maximising product valorisation and overall process efficiency. You will be actively involved in laboratory and pilot-scale testing, analysing performance data and translating experimental results into robust and scalable process designs that can progress towards industrial implementation.

You will collaborate closely with colleagues from R&D, operations and engineering to ensure seamless integration of pyrolysis units with downstream upgrading technologies such as hydrotreatment, catalytic cracking and distillation. A key aspect of your role will be supporting energy integration by valorising pyrolysis gases and ensuring that final product streams meet the required specifications for use as steam cracker feedstock, fuels or material applications. Innovation and problem-solving are central to this position. You will evaluate new catalysts, reactor configurations and separation technologies, while also troubleshooting technical challenges such as fouling, process instability and feedstock variability. Through your analyses, you will identify opportunities for yield improvement, cost reduction and increased robustness of the overall process.

What will be your biggest challenge?

In this role, you will focus on early-stage project development and play a key part in shaping, developing and maturing technologies that convert mixed waste streams into high-quality chemical feedstocks, fuels and materials. You will work at the intersection of research, engineering and operations, contributing to the development, optimisation and scale-up of innovative processes that enable circular economy solutions. Therefore you are strong in project- and stakeholder management.

Requirements

  • You obtained a master's degree or PhD in chemical/process engineering, polymer chemistry or a related field

  • You have 3 to 8 years of work experience in process development, thermal conversion, pyrolysis, refinery, or petrochemical activities

  • You have practical experience in operating pilot plants, reactor design, or upgrading units

  • You have demonstrable experience in reaction engineering, separation processes, and thermodynamics

  • You are familiar with simulation tools (Aspen Plus/HYSYS, ChemCAD, gPROMS)

  • You are fluent in English

Benefits & conditions

  • An exciting and varied responsible job that is appropriately paid
  • The opportunity to pioneer advanced recycling solutions and contribute to a more sustainable, circular economy
  • The opportunity for further development; we like to invest in our colleagues.
  • A good work-life balanc
  • The option to work partly from home by arrangement.

Where will you be working?

Indaver is an international waste treatment and management company committed to a sustainable circular future. It extracts new raw materials and energy from waste streams. Hazardous components are destroyed in order to keep the materials cycle safe.

Indaver Plastics2Chemicals (P2C) is a leader in advanced recycling technologies focused on reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable resource management. Our first plant in Antwerp reprocesses collected plastic waste streams into valuable chemicals which are further processed into circular polymers.

You will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary and enthusiastic team that is passionate about ecofriendly innovations and whose mission is to realise a circular economy. Everyone in the team wants to make this a success. We therefore adopt a flexible attitude in our work, also take on tasks that are not always in our package and take a lot of personal responsibility. You can count on a supportive and inclusive work environment that focuses on collaboration, integrity and excellence.
