Job description

We're looking for a skilled and proactive Power BI Developer to take ownership of the end-to-end development of business intelligence solutions across the organisation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full analytics lifecycle - from understanding business requirements and shaping data models to building high-quality dashboards that enable confident, data-driven decision-making. You'll work closely with stakeholders, analysts, and data teams to ensure reporting is scalable, trusted, and easy to use. What You'll Be Doing Power BI Development & Delivery (Primary Focus) Lead the full Power BI development lifecycle: requirements gathering, solution design, modelling, report development, testing, deployment, and optimisation Design and build scalable semantic models that support self-service reporting across the business Develop robust, efficient DAX measures and transformations using Power Query (M) Write and optimise complex SQL queries to support analytical workloads and reporting accuracy Translate business questions into clear analytical frameworks, KPIs, and visualisations Create intuitive, user-centred dashboards with strong emphasis on usability, accessibility, and storytelling Performance, Governance & Quality Monitor and optimise report and dataset performance, including refresh cycles, query performance, and capacity usage Implement and manage security controls such as Row-Level Security (RLS) and workspace permissions Maintain documentation including data dictionaries, model designs, and development standards Ensure solutions are built in line with best practices for scalability, maintainability, and governance Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Partner with stakeholders, business analysts, and data engineers to align on data definitions and reporting standards Provide guidance to users to support the adoption of self-service analytics Stay up to date with new Power BI features and emerging best practices, proactively enhancing existing solutions

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience Strong hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service Deep understanding of data modelling best practices, including star schema design and performance optimisation Advanced DAX skills, including time intelligence and complex calculated measures Strong experience with Power Query (M) for data transformation Proven experience writing and optimising SQL queries against SQL Server (MSSQL) Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, business-friendly explanations Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills A self-starter mindset with a strong sense of ownership and continuous improvement The Mindset That Makes You Successful Here We're looking for someone who is: Curious and driven to improve how data is used across the business * Solutions-focused, able to balance technical excellence with practical business needs Comfortable owning and driving BI initiatives from concept through to delivery
