Job description
The Senior VFX Artist will independently produce and deliver a wide range of high-quality visual effects through any stage of the production process in respect of the project's technical, design, and artistic constraints. You will guide and mentor junior artists while being a known resource for VFX art and best practices.
- Take on challenging FX problems and develop solutions that consider all variables in a self-sufficient manner
- Break down challenging or open-ended requests into actionable tasks, examine feasible options, autonomously collaborate across disciplines to propose a plan of action, and implement solutions that will satisfy all the stakeholders
- Fluent knowledge of at least one major 3D package (Maya, Max, Houdini, etc.)
- Create a wide variety of real-time special effects using sprite-based particle systems along with pixel and vertex shaders; e.g., rain, snow, smoke, explosion, destruction, weapon, fire, geometry, surface shader, and full-screen effects
- Collaborate with Art and Engineering teams, offering creative and efficient solutions to help solve performance-related issues
- Maintain clean, organized FX and Shader libraries
- Clearly communicate updates and communicate timely concerns to the production team
- Occasionally support recruitment projects with TA collaboration
Requirements
As a Senior VFX Artist, you will be a key player in the creative process, as you will help bring to life new features and boards. Your everyday challenges will include working alongside animation and integration artists, making different kinds of sequences more appealing to the player, as well as emphasising important gameplay points. You will also make our brand new boards look shinier than ever, not only by continuing the game standard, but always being ready to innovate and create new kinds of effects to push the quality bar even higher., * 6+ years' experience in AAA video games and at least one AAA shipped title
- Familiarity with video game product development including workflows, tools, particle systems, lighting, high and low poly modeling, texture painting, texture/UV animation, UV layout, in-game sprite animation, material setup
- Demonstrate a knowledge of optimization, performance, and profiling considerations
- Can effectively collaborate with all disciplines - game design, production, and engineers as well as artists
- Excellent technical and artistic problem-solving skills
- Experience working with Unity game engine, Photoshop and 3D applications (Maya or 3D Studio Max)
Bonus Points
- Provide the user with a positive experience, focusing on the features that the individual interacts with when they play a game
- Have experience creating preview sequences and animations in After Effects or similar
- Worked previously or have a portfolio with stylised or cartoon effects
