Job description

The Doctoral Candidate hosted by EURECOM will undertake an individual research project focused on the design of Software-Defined WAN controllers for 6G networks. The research will address the following objectives i) to design the interconnection of SD-WAN controllers in Network-Compute Fabric with QoS support; ii) to develop methods for incorporating tenants' intention to configure network resources.; iii) Using ML approaches to ensure autonomous (Zero-touch) functioning of the Compute CIC, iv) explore new dataplane solution based on hardware acceleration such DPU. The expected results are i) design of SD-WAN controllers; ii) new SD-WAN edge nodes that are cloud native and support DPU.

  • Learn to master academic writing and author journal publications,
  • present his/her work at projects workshops, plenary meetings and international conferences,
  • participate in secondments to consortium partners,
  • contribute to the supervision of undergraduate students., The candidate can be of any nationality, but they should not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the host institution of the position they are applying to for more than 1 year in the past 3 years.

  • Hold, or be close to completing, a Master's degree (or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Possess programming skills.
  • Be excellent team player, ready to engage in an enthusiastic and hardworking group of scientists and engineers on a joint project.
  • Show capacities in both written and spoken English, with excellent communication skills, to fully benefit from the network training.
  • Be capable of collaborating intensively with both industrial and academic partners through regular meetings and work visits, and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and international environment.

Benefits & conditions

The Doctoral Candidates (DC) Fellowship is offered under very attractive employment conditions and competitive salaries in compliance with the MSCA Working Program. Salary is regulated by the EU total contributions. The gross salary is 2742€ with a bonus as a MSCA student. The period of employment is 36 months. One PhD position sponsored by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network NEWTON is offered at EURECOM, in Sophia Antipolis, French Riviera, France. EURECOM is a research and teaching institute located in the Sophia Antipolis Technopolis, France. EURECOM's research activity focuses on 3 domains: Digital Security, Data Science, and Communication Systems (CSD). EURECOM has some 150 employees among which 121 are scientists (25 professors, 26 engineers, 75 PhD. students). The CSD has its focus on 5G/6G cellular systems and protocols, Telco Cloud, AI/ML-based and data-driven management and orchestration, O-RAN, and SW and HW prototyping where it has founded the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (www.openairinterface.org). He or she will join the dynamic team led by Prof. Adlen Ksentini on Network Softwarization in 6G. The Doctoral Candidate will join the recently launched NEWTON Doctoral Network, which is funded by the Horizon Europe Research Program through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, under the title: " NovEl tEchnologies for converged Wireless-opTical cOnfiguratioNs". The NEWTON project is a collaboration of eight outstanding EU academic and private sector partners.
