Job description
The Opportunity: This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking, cloud-first organisation where platform engineering sits at the heart of technology strategy. You'll play a key role in shaping how platforms are designed, delivered and evolved, with real influence over tooling, architecture and ways of working. Most importantly, it's working for a manager who I have known for a number of years - a great person who really invests in his team and empowers people to do their jobs.
You'll be part of a collaborative environment that values innovation, continuous improvement and modern engineering practices, with the backing to drive change and deliver meaningful impact. The role offers a great balance of leadership and hands-on involvement, giving you the chance to stay close to technology while building and developing a high-performing team.
The Role As Platform Engineering Manager, you'll take ownership of the end-to-end lifecycle of core platforms across both public and private cloud environments.
You'll:
- Lead, mentor and develop a cross-functional platform engineering team
- Define and deliver the platform strategy, roadmap and backlog
- Drive adoption of cloud-first and hybrid solutions (Azure and private cloud)
- Oversee the design and operation of internal developer platforms, CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks
- Embed observability, reliability and SRE practices to improve performance and reduce incidents
- Champion infrastructure as code, self-service capabilities and developer experience
- Ensure platforms are secure, compliant and resilient, including disaster recovery and risk management
- Work closely with stakeholders across the business, translating technical concepts into clear outcomes
Requirements
- Experience leading platform engineering or DevOps teams in hybrid cloud environments
- Strong knowledge of Azure and private cloud technologies (e.g. VMware, Nutanix)
- Hands-on experience with automation, CI/CD, Kubernetes and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform)
- A solid understanding of security, compliance and risk in cloud environments
- Experience delivering scalable, reliable and secure platforms
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
