Job description
As a dedicated Network and Cyber Security Engineer, you will own the security of the infrastructure that keeps SRC UK running. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you will design and build our security function, establishing the frameworks, tooling, and processes that will protect our systems, data, and people. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role with scope for growth, including the potential to build and lead a team as the function matures.
You will work across a rich and varied technical environment, collaborating closely with colleagues in engineering and operations to embed security thinking at every level of the organisation.
Responsibilities
· Work alongside the Corporate Information Services and Security teams to design and implement network and cyber security infrastructure, including our Fortinet/FortiGate firewall estate and hybrid Active Directory environment.
· Take full advantage of our Microsoft 365 E5 licensing, driving adoption of Microsoft Defender, Purview, Compliance, and the wider security tooling available to us.
· Manage and secure our on-premises services and infrastructure.
· Work closely with the Engineering department's dedicated DevSecOps function, offering security expertise and guidance to support the integration of application security tooling across CI/CD pipelines. Promoting a secure-by-design culture with-in development.
· Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and documentation aligned to relevant frameworks (ISO27001, Cyber Essentials, GDPR and Defence Cyber Certification (DCC)).
· Lead vulnerability management, from scanning and assessment through to remediation. As well as act as the internal expert for security incidents and technical risk.
· Contribute to business continuity planning and disaster recovery, ensuring our infrastructure is resilient as well as secure.
Requirements
Do you have experience in vSphere?, · Proven experience securing hybrid environments combining on-premises infrastructure and cloud services, particularly Microsoft 365.
· Hands-on experience with Fortinet/FortiGate firewalls and enterprise network security architecture.
· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft security tooling, Defender suite, Purview, Compliance Centre, Entra ID, Conditional Access, and Intune.
· Experience with virtualisation platforms, particularly VMware vSphere and/or virtual desktop infrastructure.
· Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms and Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS) - including configuration, tuning, alerting, and using these tools to maintain visibility and respond to threats across the environment.
· Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tooling.
· Solid understanding of security compliance frameworks including ISO27001, Cyber Essentials, and GDPR.
· A practical, risk-based approach to security, able to balance thoroughness with the pace of a growing business.
· Strong communication skills and the confidence to influence colleagues at all levels.
Desirable:
· Relevant certifications such as SC-200 (Microsoft Security Operations Analyst), MS-500 (Microsoft 365 Security Administrator), Fortinet NSE 4, CISM, CISSP, CEH, or CREST.
· Scripting ability in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation and log analysis.
· Experience with container security (Docker, Kubernetes).
· Exposure to Blue/Red team exercises or formal penetration testing.

The starting salary for this role is from £55,000 depending on experience. This is an onsite role at our offices in Lincoln., * Casual dress
