Job description

The IT Programme Delivery team ensures that technology programmes and projects are well-planned, governed and delivered successfully. The team provides structure, coordination and oversight so that IT change is delivered in a controlled, reliable and consistent way. They work closely with technical teams and senior leaders to align delivery with university priorities and strategic goals. A key priority is providing assurance that programmes are set up for success, risks are managed and progress is transparent. The team also supports effective decision-making by ensuring clear governance, reporting and accountability. Ultimately, the team enables the university to deliver meaningful digital change with confidence., IT Services is looking for an experienced IT project or programme manager to join us as an ITS Programme Delivery Lead. Working with colleagues in ITS services, the University's Strategic Change Office and stakeholders across the institution, you will own and ensure delivery of agreed IT outcomes for strategic programmes and projects, owning the technology roadmaps and plans and overseeing matrix teams to manage implementation and transition into live service.

You'll oversee provision of IT staff and technical resources (including external third parties) for programmes and projects, ensuring they are costed, capable and available. You'll assure the quality of IT deliverables, identifying and resolving risks, issues and dependencies as they arise.

As an expert in IT change, you'll own and continuously improve the systems development lifecycle and standards and make sure these are applied and embedded within programmes. You'll also own the relationships between IT Services and the programme and project stakeholders, acting as a primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, the Strategic Change Office and operational business partners. You'll use excellent communication skills to clarify and simplify technical issues to aid understanding and consensus.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience of successfully managing IT projects and programmes using agile and waterfall methodologies
  • Significant experience of leading and directing the work of teams and direct and matrix reports, setting and managing clear and challenging performance goals
  • Expertise in the identification, assessment and management of project risks and interdependencies, which could result in time or cost over-runs, or failure to deliver products which are fit for purpose
  • The ability to work confidently and assertively with a range of executive and non-executive senior stakeholders, using coaching, negotiating, communication and influencing skills to achieve successful outcomes
  • Technically current, with an up-to-date understanding of technology trends and directions across the industry.
  • Experience of identity governance technology implementations and/or migrations would be a distinct advantage.
  • Previous experience of working in a Higher Education environment would be a distinct advantage.
