Job description

As a Senior Scrum Master, you ensure the predictable realization of the product backlog with an optimal flow. You act as a coach, facilitator, and change agent for one or more Scrum teams and their Product Owners, and you safeguard the habits, rhythms, and rituals aimed at continuous improvement, team development, and value-driven delivery within the ART chain.

You operate in an environment of high complexity (multi-team dynamics, system level, integrations, dependencies, and ambiguity). You work independently at the ART and chain levels, coordinate dependencies between teams, and structurally influence the way of working within the organization. If necessary, you can also assume the role of RTE.

Core responsibilities: Predictable delivery & flow

  • Responsible for predictable and value delivery across one or more teams/value streams, in line with ART goals (e.g., PMP 90%-110%).
  • Structurally improves delivery flow, quality, and predictability using data insights (trend analyses, patterns, root-cause analysis).

Impediment management & risk control

  • Identifies, prioritizes, and removes complex impediments (integrations, cross-team dependencies, constraints between departments).
  • Anticipates risks and obstacles before they materialize and organizes preventive actions.
  • Strengthens quality, compliance, and audit-proof working methods and structurally reduces risks.

Coaching, facilitatie & alignment

  • Coaches teams, Product Owners, and stakeholders on agile behavior, alignment, and systems thinking.
  • Facilitates (multi-team) refinements, retrospectives, and ART events, and encourages a culture of continuous learning.
  • Simplifies complex topics and makes them understandable with clear overviews for teams and leadership.

Cross-team collaboration & governance

  • Coordinates cross-team dependencies and improves collaboration across teams/departments.
  • Leads and professionalizes the collaboration between Scrum Masters and helps strengthen agile ways of working at the ART level.
  • Designs, improves, and safeguards standards, governance structures, and rituals at the ART level, including organization-wide adoption.

Stakeholder management

  • Proactively collaborates with the RTE, Product Owner, Business Technology Lead (BTL), and other stakeholders to prevent roadblocks early on.
  • Actively drives alignment and can hold firm conversations with senior stakeholders where necessary to ensure flow, quality, and risk reduction.
  • Acts as a trusted partner for RTEs, BTLs, and leadership by providing foresight, risk insights, and structured improvement guidance.

People & community

  • Mentors other Scrum Masters and builds a strong Agile/Scrum community (guilds/chapters).
  • Supports effective onboarding of new team members (e.g. safety briefings) and ensures consistent application of Agile/Scrum/Lean.
  • Prepares decision-making regarding the recruitment and selection of team members.

Requirements

  • Strong in achieving high performance and promoting flow within and across teams.
  • Data-driven improvement (metrics & insights) of flow, predictability, quality, and dependencies.
  • Excellent at complexity reduction: clear structure, communication, and decision-making.
  • Proven ability to resolve system and organizational bottlenecks and realize system-level improvements.
  • Operate independently at ART/chain level; effective in coordinating dependencies.
