Job description

Job Title: Software/Application Engineer (SC Cleared)

Clearance: Active SC Clearance required

Duration: 6 months initially

Experience Level: 6 - 12+ years (Junior to Senior)

Opportunities: Multiple openings

Day Rate: To be discussed/Negotiable depending on location and experience (Inside IR35)

Location: 2 days onsite (London, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle & Glasgow)

Overview:

We' re working with a leading organisation delivering large-scale digital programmes within the UK public sector and are looking to bring on board several Software/Application Engineers.

These roles sit across a variety of delivery teams and platforms, with opportunities to focus on Back End, full-stack, integration, or data-led development, depending on your skill set and project alignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and maintain scalable applications and services
  • Develop and enhance APIs and microservices architectures
  • Work within Agile delivery teams to deliver high-quality software
  • Contribute to cloud-based solutions (primarily AWS)
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, analysts, and stakeholders

Essential Skills (Must Have):

  • Java (Spring Boot preferred)
  • Node.js/JavaScript
  • Proven experience building APIs and microservices
  • Experience working within cloud environments (AWS preferred)
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience working in Agile environments

Desirable Skills:

  • Event-driven architectures (eg Kafka)
  • Frontend frameworks (Angular or React)
  • Data-focused development (Python, Spark, Airflow)
  • Integration platforms or file transfer systems
  • Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Supporting and maintaining live production services
  • Previous experience within the UK Public Sector
