Job description

  • The client requires development and maintenance of application components using Oracle APEX, PL/SQL, and related technologies.
  • Implementation of user interface elements and application logic in line with established designs and development patterns.
  • Close collaboration with product owners, testers, and wider team members to deliver user-focused solutions.
  • Active participation in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Adherence to MOD standards covering security, accessibility, and performance across all development activities.
  • Contribution to estimation, code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Identification of improvement opportunities and escalation of technical issues through established processes.
  • Resolution of bugs and delivery of minor enhancements as prioritised within sprint cycles.
  • Ongoing development of knowledge in Oracle APEX and associated best practices.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification in Oracle APEX development, or equivalent practical experience
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and associated tools
  • Training or experience in Agile or Scrum methodologies
  • Awareness of MOD or public sector digital standards, including Secure by Design and accessibility requirements
  • A degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, The successful candidate is expected to have:
  • Proven recent experience developing applications using Oracle APEX in a production environment (version 22.2)
  • Strong knowledge of PL/SQL, SQL, and Oracle database design principles
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary digital team (e.g. developers, testers, product owners)
  • A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Experience working within a Defence, public sector, or similarly secure environment
  • Knowledge of integrating Oracle APEX with third-party APIs or external data sources, Please note that as a charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people, we require staff to make a declaration about any relevant convictions, undergo both a Disclosure and Barring Service check and a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check (one of the requirements being that applicants must have been resident in the UK for 3 years).
