Job description
This is a hands on role, ideal for someone with a strong practical engineering background who is comfortable working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to build, test, and implementation. Design Engineer Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD
- Develop machinery and control systems, experience with pumps, valves, pipework, pneumatics, hydraulics etc. would be beneficial
- Produce detailed manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerances and GD&T
- Work closely with workshop/production teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
- Support prototype builds, testing, and fault finding
- Modify and improve existing designs based on performance feedback
- Assist with supplier liaison and component selection
- Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards and safety requirements Design Engineer Profile
Requirements

Experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position, ideally within machinery or similar

Strong practical engineering background, ideally time-served machining/toolmaking beneficial

Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment

Experience taking projects from concept through to completion Technical Requirements

Proficient in 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)

Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T

Good knowledge of: o Machining and fabrication processes o Materials, fits, and tolerances o Assembly methods and real-world performance Desirable experience:

Pumps, valves, or pressure systems

Pneumatics and/or hydraulics

Special purpose machinery or general equipment design Electrical Awareness (Desirable)

Basic understanding of motors, sensors, and wiring

Awareness of control systems/automation (PLCs advantageous)
