Design Engineer

This is a hands-on design role, ideal for someone with a strong background in fabricated structures who enjoys working across the full design lifecycle - collaborating with manufacturing, suppliers, and site teams to deliver complex engineering solutions., * Designing heavy fabricated structures such as skids, frames, platforms, lifting equipment, and large assemblies

• Producing and checking engineering drawings and models in line with relevant standards (BS 8888, EN 1090, ISO 3834)
• Supporting structural and mechanical calculations (static loading, basic fatigue, weld sizing, GD&T, etc.)
• Working closely with fabrication, production, and QA teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable (DfMA)
• Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to support design delivery and resolve technical queries
• Assisting with WPS/WPQR documentation, inspection plans, and quality requirements
• Supporting site activities including FAT/SAT, RFIs, and technical queries during build and installation phases
• Producing and maintaining technical documentation such as BOMs, drawings, and reports
• Contributing to continuous improvement of engineering standards and processes

This role would suit an experienced Design Engineer looking to step up, or a Senior Engineer wanting to remain hands-on in a technically interesting environment.

You'll likely have:

• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
• Strong experience in fabricated/welded structures within a heavy engineering or regulated environment
• Good understanding of relevant standards (BS/EN, welding/fabrication codes)
• Experience producing and checking engineering drawings and design outputs
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly fabrication and welding
• Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional teams
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)
• Exposure to engineering calculations (FEA experience beneficial but not essential)
