Job description

You'll be deep-diving into uncharted territory-developing cutting-edge computer vision systems that can detect and monitor aspects of animal welfare that current technology cannot. This isn't about applying existing models; it's about pioneering new approaches to problems that matter. You'll also work on adapting and refining standard computer vision models, ensuring they perform robustly in real-world agricultural settings., * Design and develop novel computer vision algorithms for complex animal behavior and welfare detection

  • Adapt and optimize standard computer vision models for agricultural environments
  • Own dataset curation, validation, and labelling processes to ensure high-quality training data
  • Push technical boundaries-solving problems that require creative thinking and rigorous experimentation
  • Work with challenging datasets in real-world agricultural or wildlife settings
  • Collaborate closely with our agile team, contributing to sprint planning and iterative development
  • Partner with domain experts in animal welfare and veterinary science
  • Publish findings and contribute to the broader research community

Our Working Environment

We operate as an agile team using scrum, fostering collaboration, rapid iteration, and continuous improvement. You'll work in a dynamic environment where research meets practical application, with regular sprints that balance innovation with delivery.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or related field (or equivalent research experience with published work demonstrating deep technical expertise)
  • Strong foundation in deep learning architectures, particularly CNNs, transformers, and video understanding
  • Experience tackling ill-defined or novel problems where off-the-shelf solutions don't exist
  • Proven ability to move from research concepts to practical implementations
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment with scrum methodologies
  • Passion for applying technical skills to meaningful real-world impact

Technical Requirements

  • Deep Learning Frameworks: Expert-level proficiency in PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Computer Vision: Strong experience with object detection, tracking, pose estimation, action recognition, or video analysis
  • Python: Advanced programming skills with clean, maintainable code practices
  • ML Pipeline: Experience with model training, evaluation, optimization, and deployment
  • Data Management: Experience with dataset curation, validation, and annotation workflows
  • Research Methods: Solid understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis, and performance evaluation
  • Version Control: Proficient with Git and collaborative development workflows

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with edge deployment and model optimization (ONNX, TensorRT, quantization)
  • Background in video understanding, temporal modeling, or behavior analysis
  • Familiarity with MLOps tools (MLflow, Weights & Biases, DVC)
  • Experience designing annotation pipelines and managing labelling workflows
  • Knowledge of agricultural technology or animal science domains
  • Published research in top-tier computer vision conferences (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS), * Master's (required), * Computer vision: 3 years (required)
  • Python: 3 years (required)
  • novel solution: 3 years (required)
