Systems Engineer (Rail) - A role designed for someone who thrives at the intersection of systems thinking, engineering rigour, and the delivery of complex rail and infrastructure programmes across the UK and internationally. The Opportunity
Our client is a respected, award-winning consultancy known for delivering high-quality engineering, systems, and assurance expertise across major rail and infrastructure projects. As they continue to expand their Systems Engineering capability, they are seeking a Systems Engineer who can bring structure, clarity, and technical confidence to multi-disciplinary programmes.
This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring that systems are defined, integrated, verified, and validated effectively throughout the project lifecycle supporting safe, reliable, and compliant outcomes for clients and end users., * Supporting the development and delivery of systems engineering strategies, plans, and processes.
- Defining, managing, and tracing requirements across complex rail and infrastructure projects.
- Facilitating system integration activities and ensuring interfaces are clearly understood and controlled.
- Supporting verification and validation activities, ensuring evidence is robust, traceable, and aligned with project objectives.
- Contributing to hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety-related systems activities.
- Working collaboratively with design, engineering, assurance, and delivery teams.
- Applying recognised systems engineering frameworks (e.g., ISO 15288, EN50126/8/9) to ensure consistent and high-quality outcomes.
- Managing systems engineering deliverables and supporting client governance and technical reviews.
Requirements
While the role spans all aspects of systems engineering, candidates with experience in signalling, control systems, or system integration will bring additional insight that is highly advantageous. Not essential, but a strong differentiator. Safety & Hazard Analysis Experience - A Valuable Bonus
Candidates with exposure to HAZID, HAZOP, or wider safety-related risk assessment activities will bring additional depth to the role. Not essential, but a valuable complement to strong systems engineering capability. What You'll Bring
- Experience in systems engineering within the rail or wider infrastructure sector.
- Understanding of systems engineering principles, lifecycle processes, and industry standards.
- Ability to interpret complex technical information and translate it into structured, clear systems documentation.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with multi-disciplinary teams.
- A methodical, analytical approach with the ability to challenge constructively.
- Ideally, exposure to requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama) or systems integration activities.
