Job description
Are you ready to lead 40+ engineers on a mission to build cutting-edge cloud solutions for the healthcare industry? Within Digital Health Solutions (DHS), we develop modern, cloud-native applications while continuously evolving and modernizing our existing software portfolio. This role goes beyond leading software teams - it is a unique opportunity to build a new R&D site from the ground up. As Software Development Director, you will be the senior R&D leader in our new Hamburg office, opening in mid-April. From day one, you will set the technical direction, culture, and ways of working, while integrating closely with our established R&D organization across Europe. Your mission is to ensure Hamburg becomes a core pillar of our long-term R&D strategy, not a satellite office. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to shape high-performing software development teams, ensure delivery excellence, and drive a strong culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement - all aligned with Getinge's platform-first, cloud-native ambition. What you will do In this senior leadership role, you will:
- Lead and scale software development: Set technical direction and be accountable
for planning, cost, quality, and delivery across all development activities in your department.
- Build and lead high-performing teams: Recruit, develop, coach, and mentor managers and engineers, ensuring strong leadership pipelines and long-term competence growth.
- Drive collaboration and execution: Work closely with Product Management, peers in DHS R&D, and other global stakeholders to ensure alignment with business and customer needs and commercial priorities, translating strategy into clear outcomes and accountable execution.
- Drive customer and business impact: Translate customer needs and commercial priorities into clear engineering outcomes, ensuring teams take ownership from problem to result and consistently deliver measurable value.
- Establish strong processes and quality culture: Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements while facilitating continuous improvement and modern development practices.
- Shape the Hamburg R&D site: Lead organizational development, embed Getinge values, and create a culture that values customer impact, healthy challenge, and accountability.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience, combined with 5+ years of leadership experience managing managers and engineers in a product-focused environment.
- Proven experience leading complex, cross-team software initiatives, aligning technical execution with business goals.
- Solid understanding of modern software ecosystems and agile ways of working, including Scrum, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with technologies such as .NET/C#, JavaScript, Blazor, SQL, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, and Microsoft Azure (experience with parts of this stack is sufficient).
Benefits & conditions
In addition to your technical background, we highly value your leadership personality. You are a confident, communicative leader who builds trust, develops people, and inspires teams through clarity, presence, and purpose. You thrive in a high-expectation environment and enjoy balancing strategic direction with hands-on leadership. We believe you have a strong ambition for growth and a genuine curiosity for staying up to date with the latest developments in software engineering and digital health. Why join Getinge At Getinge, you will join a collaborative and purpose-driven environment where people development, trust, and openness are central. We offer:
