Job description

Ionix is seeking an DevOps Engineer to support the deployment, maintenance, and operation of secure, connected monitoring systems for harsh industrial environments. You will deliver cloud and on-prem solutions that connect data from ultrasonic sensors from our monitoring solution, which includes LoRaWAN-based IOT systems but not limited to, to provide actionable asset data to end users.

This hands-on role involves system integration, device onboarding, data flow management, and managing live customer instances. You will work closely with internal engineering teams and external partners to support real-world deployments in sectors including energy, chemicals, and manufacturing, with a focus on long-term corrosion monitoring and defect detection. Your focus will be developing data flows which ingest and output data in a range of IOT and industrial formats. You will also be responsible for connecting IOT devices, including configuration of relevant gateways e.g. LoRaWAN LNS using Chirpstack.

In year one, you will support a pilot with around 10 customers and up to 100 devices, building processes that will scale to thousands of devices in future years. This is a varied and practical role that offers the opportunity to take ownership of system integration and deployment activities. It suits a technically capable, proactive engineer who works well independently and is confident operating in demanding, safety-critical environments.

Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK., * Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, and others to facilitate seamless deployment.

  • Manage containerisation platforms including Docker and Kubernetes to support scalable microservices architectures.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using tools like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, PowerShell, Bash (Unix shell), and Shell Scripting.
  • Administer cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and OpenStack to optimise cloud infrastructure and ensure high availability.
  • Monitor system performance and application health using tools such as New Relic, Splunk, Elasticsearch, and Nagios; troubleshoot issues proactively.
  • Oversee disaster recovery planning and implementation to minimise downtime during outages or security incidents.
  • Maintain and support various middleware applications including Weblogic, JBoss, WebSphere; manage databases like MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, DynamoDB.
  • Ensure security best practices are followed by managing firewalls, DNS configurations, TCP/IP settings, Active Directory integration, and incident response procedures.
  • Collaborate with development teams during requirements gathering to facilitate smooth software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
  • Support system testing phases by automating deployment workflows and debugging issues across multiple environments.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in containerisation (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and virtualization technologies such as VMware and Virtualisation platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing services including AWS (S3, EC2), Azure (VMs), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and OpenStack.
  • Deploy, integrate, and support connected devices to Thingsboard PE and customer systems, including developing new flows and integrations.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Groovy, Perl, Ruby, PowerShell, Bash (Unix shell), C#, C++, JavaScript; experience with REST APIs.
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, Puppet; build tools such as Maven, Gradle; version control systems including GitHub, GitLab, SVN.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like New Relic, Splunk; logging frameworks; disaster recovery strategies; incident management protocols.
  • Knowledge of web servers (Nginx), application servers (Tomcat), middleware (Weblogic), database systems (MySQL T-SQL SQL Server Oracle DynamoDB).
  • Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP protocols, DNS management, firewalls; experience with LAN/WAN environments.
  • Strong background in software development practices including continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), SDLC processes; experience with microservices architecture is advantageous.
