Job description

Our client is a major UK digital, cyber and intelligence organisation delivering secure technology solutions across National Security and critical infrastructure programmes. With thousands of specialists operating globally, they design and build resilient, high-assurance systems in some of the most demanding environments in the country.

Due to sustained growth across National Security accounts, they are hiring Senior Cloud Engineers to join their Gloucester team. This is not a generic cloud role. You will be working on secure government and critical systems where reliability, resilience and security are essential.

You will operate within multi-disciplinary engineering teams, shaping cloud-native solutions that directly support nationally significant programmes.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing and building secure, cloud-native architectures in AWS
  • Deploying infrastructure using Terraform, CDK or CloudFormation
  • Creating and managing scalable infrastructure environments
  • Implementing configuration management using tools such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible
  • Building and managing containerised environments using Kubernetes, ECS or OpenShift
  • Applying AWS security best practices and embedding secure-by-design principles
  • Managing source control and software configuration across projects
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Leading teams or mentoring engineers at Senior level

This is hands-on engineering. You will be expected to design, build and improve cloud platforms rather than simply maintain them.

Requirements

  • Strong experience across AWS services and modern cloud patterns
  • Infrastructure as Code expertise, such as Terraform, CDK or CloudFormation
  • Configuration management experience
  • Solid networking fundamentals and understanding of software-defined networking
  • Container orchestration experience
  • Scripting capability in at least one language such as Python, Bash or Go
  • AWS certifications are desirable but not essential

The environment rewards engineers who stay current with new AWS releases and evolving best practice., This role suits experienced AWS Cloud Engineers who want to work on secure, high-impact systems rather than standard commercial platforms. If you value engineering discipline, structured delivery and exposure to nationally significant programmes, this warrants a conversation.

Benefits & conditions

  • Salary up to £70,000
  • Annual bonus
  • DV Bonus - £7,000 annually, tax-free, paid quarterly
  • 25 days holiday with buy/sell options
  • Private medical and dental cover
  • Competitive pension
  • Flexible benefits package
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
  • Structured career development with a dedicated career manager
  • Funded training and certification support

Senior Engineers are supported to progress into technical leadership or architecture pathways.

Security & Eligibility

Due to the nature of the work, you must:

  • Have permanent and unrestricted right to work in the UK
  • Be eligible for Government DV clearance

This role sits within National Security and critical infrastructure programmes. Clearance is mandatory.
