Job description
Vulcain Engineering UK are seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the development of modern data systems that will underpin a major nuclear decommissioning programme.
This role will shape and deliver data architecture for a major engineering programme, designing systems that ensure data is structured, accessible, secure, and aligned with long-term programme goals. You will work across technical, engineering, and digital teams to establish modern data models, governance frameworks, and solutions that support largescale data use.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Data Architect will include:
- Design and maintain robust data models and data architecture structures.
- Ensure efficient data flow, integration, and accessibility across platforms.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, metadata frameworks, and governance models.
- Support compliance with data quality, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee storage, archiving, and lifecycle management of data assets.
- Collaborate with technical and engineering teams to align data systems with programme objectives.
- Develop solutions that support reporting, analytics, and datadriven decisionmaking.
- Provide expert input into documentation and data components for future procurement packages.
Requirements
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Strong background in data architecture, data modelling, or largescale database design.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance principles.
- Experience with ETL pipelines, data warehousing, and integration tools.
- Skills in Python, SQL, or similar languages for data manipulation.
- Familiarity with bigdata tools and modern data engineering practices.
- Experience supporting complex technical or engineering programmes.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
