Job description

Post Details - The post holder will be required to work a rostered shift pattern including day, evening, weekends and public holidays. As a Security Operator, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the hospital through the application of agreed policies and procedures.

Post holders will monitor and control access to the hospital, ensuring all persons entering and leaving are authorised, they will search and escort staff, visitors, and vehicles entering or leaving the premises. This post requires daily perimeter fence checks which entails walking around a mile over uneven terrain as part of routine checks as well as standing for extended periods of time. They will respond professionally and courteously to all situations, including disputes and confrontations, while promoting respect and dignity. Post holder will work collaboratively within a team to deliver agreed security standards and policies along with operating security systems and maintaining accurate records. Rosters are published six weeks in advance. Position 1 will also include participation in relief cover periods, typically lasting six weeks, up to three times per year.

Requirements

Experience - Previous experience within a security or customer-focused environment is essential, as well as knowledge of Microsoft packages including word and outlook. Applicants must be able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills, effective communication and a level of literacy and comprehension, as well as good attention to detail. Applicants should have the ability to work on their own initiative and prioritise their workload. A valid full UK driving license is essential.

AfC Band 3 (pro rata) plus a High Secure Environmental Allowance of £1,818.72 per annum (pro rata)

Hours 15.57 hours per week

The post holder will work 15.57 hours per week, rostered over two days. Flexibility is required in relation to the days worked, which will vary in line with service needs and will include weekend working.

Contract Duration - Permanent, Reduced Working Week* -Starting from 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours, and part-time staff will get a pro-rata reduction in their working hours without losing any earnings.
