Job description
Infrastructure Engineers at Nscale sit inside the Operational Engineering team. The Operational Engineering team is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of the infrastructure and platforms that underpin Nscale's services and products. This includes all components below the hypervisor, with a strong focus on OpenStack, storage systems, and continuous integration/testing services such as NKS, DHCP, and infrastructure automation.
This team executes high levels of availability, scalability, automation, and security for the infrastructure on which they own.
This team acts as a 3/4th line escalation point for support organisations, as well as providing subject matter expertise on other groups within the organisation.
What You'll be Doing
- Lead and grow a team responsible for the design, delivery, and operation of infrastructure platforms, ensuring close accountability and results (including On-Call/Pager/Incident management).
- Own outcomes for platform reliability, availability, security, and delivery velocity, ensuring clear accountability and assessment metrics.
- Build and manage team plans and execution roadmaps: delivery prioritisation, resourcing, and costing team coordination.
- Provide decision-making guidance and governance, including technical postmortems, runbooks, change management, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with stakeholders (engineering, security, product, support, pre-sales) to align platform capabilities with business and customer needs.
- Ensure automation and infrastructure-as-code maturity: consistent provisioning, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Drive performance management, coaching, career development, hiring, and team delivery-guiding an organic-reporting infrastructure and production operations (enough depth to guide decisions and unblock the team).
- Represent infrastructure capabilities in solution discussions, supporting pre-sales efforts with accurate guidance on feasibility, risk, and health-indicators.
Champion and safeguard compliance, security, and operational standards, and that audit-readiness is maintained.
Requirements
Do you have experience in OpenStack?, * Experience managing infrastructure/platform engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, delivery, and stakeholder management.
- Deep technical knowledge in the infrastructure and production operations (enough depth to guide decisions and unblock the team).
- Familiarity with OpenStack/Proxmox/Ceph environments and the operational realities of running them at scale.
- Proven experience driving automation and standardisation using Ansible/IaC approaches.
- Comfortable owning operational outcomes (incident management, reliability improvement) and team resourcing.
- Strong communication skills translating technical topics for non-technical stakeholders and aligning multiple teams.
- Nice to have: direct experience with OpenStack components (Ironic/Neutron/OVN/OVS) and storage/network architecture at scale.
