Requirements
- Strong experience with Databricks and data lake / lakehouse architectures
- Proven hands-on experience implementing medallion architecture
- Solid understanding and real-world use of Unity Catalog
- Experience designing data-native ingestion patterns (streaming, batch, CDC, etc.)
- A good grounding in data governance, including security, access control and data lifecycle management
- Background as a senior / lead data engineer or data architect, with confidence in data design and architecture
- Comfortable influencing technical direction and mentoring others

About the company
We're looking for a Lead / Principal Data Engineer or an experienced Data Architect to play a key role in shaping and evolving our clients modern data platform.
This is a great opportunity for a senior data engineer who's already strong in data design and platform thinking and is ready to step more fully into an architectural role - while still staying close to the technology. The role is mostly remote with 1 day a month in West Yorkshire.
What you'll be doing
* Designing and evolving a Databricks-based data platform, with a strong focus on medallion architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold)
* Leading data design decisions across ingestion, transformation, modelling and consumption
* Defining and promoting data-native ingestion patterns that are scalable, resilient and cost-effective
* Owning and embedding data governance practices, including security, access control and data quality
* Working hands-on with Unity Catalog to manage data access, lineage and governance
* Acting as a technical leader and trusted advisor across engineering, analytics and wider stakeholders
* Helping shape standards, best practices and the long-term data architecture roadmap
