HMRCs Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for the departments civil and criminal investigations.
Covert Operations, Digital Exploitation (CODE) sits within FIS. Working across Law Enforcement and government, CODE provides investigative tools and covert techniques to front-line investigations and works with key partners to develop and provide access to new technology and systems to enable investigators to respond to serious and complex tax evasion and crime., This role sits within the Digital Forensic Infrastructure Team (DFI) which is part of FIS CODE Capability, Development, Infrastructure & Innovation (CDII) and plays an integral role in His Majesty's Government's fight against serious and organised crime, supporting investigations totalling hundreds of millions of pounds each year. DFI supports FIS CODE and all wider FIS investigations.
Digital Forensic Infrastructure (DFI) is responsible for delivering a broad portfolio of change initiatives, both to sustain and transform FISs legacy technologies and to deliver innovative new solutions, designed around our customers needs. DFI works in an integrated way to combine digital and technology change, project deliver, business process, product management and cultural change to maximise impact and ensure sustainability.

As one of our Senior DevOps Engineers, you will be responsible for maintaining and evolving the FIS cloud Infrastructure in line with strategy set by the Principal Technical Lead.
You will provide technical support to the forensic infrastructure team across multiple sites and colleagues in the wider national FIS estate.
The Senior DevOps Engineer will manage third party provision of infrastructure services and the provision of expertise to develop architectural solutions for infrastructure services throughout the service product life cycle.

- Provide direction and support junior engineers.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Work as part of a skilled team sharing ideas but also take the initiative and work independently with little supervision.
- Play a leading role in the planning, designing, maintaining, and improving FIS Cloud infrastructure services and technologies.
- Work with and support third parties in providing infrastructure and work with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations.
- You can break a problem down into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes as well as troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities.
- You are an excellent communicator who can describe basic technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, and you will regularly be expected to provide verbal updates and produce written user documentation on BAU taskings and projects.
- This may include participating in technical workshops to assess business requirements to support possible changes to existing services, identifying requirements and quantifying benefits.
Regular travel within the UK for meetings and infrastructure work will be required with occasional overnight stays. You will be required to work out of hours on an on-call rota, weekdays and weekends., During the panel interview, you will be asked to prepare and deliver a presentation to assess your experience, follow-up questions will be asked. Hybrid working at HMRC

Requirements
Do you have experience in TypeScript?, We are looking for an enthusiastic, resilient individual who can deliver in an impactful way within a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
This is an IT Technical role, and you will already a strong background working as a DevOps engineer (or similar) with public cloud platforms (eg. AWS, Azure or GCP), * Experience working with Dev Ops processes and practices.
- Experience working with Gitlab or other CI/CD tools.
- Experience working with Terraform.
- Experience with version control systems.
- Experience working with programming languages (eg. Python, TypeScript).
- Ability to use lateral thinking to break a problem down into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes.
- Demonstrable evidence that you can troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including computing, storage, networking, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS) and open-source software.
- Ability to managing the planning of system and acceptance tests, co-ordinating both functional and non-functional specifications.
- Ability to provide authoritative advice and guidance on test planning.
- Ability to identify process improvements and contribute to the definition of best practice.
- Ability to select appropriate design standards, methods, and tools, and ensure they are applied effectively.
- Ability to review the system designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology.
Desirable Criteria:
- Exposure to, or experience working with, project management tools (eg. Jira, MS Project).

This post attracts a Level 2 Flexibility Payment (FP) that is paid monthly with salary. This FP allows HMRC flexibility to change your work pattern, at short notice, to meet business needs. You will be expected to undertake periods of On Call.
