GCP Cloud Engineer - Glasgow

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer with strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Python, and Terraform to support a major enterprise-wide cloud enablement programme. This role will be central to building secure, scalable, and automated cloud foundations; enabling Vertex AI capabilities; provisioning delivery environments; and operationalising the target-state cloud operating model across people, process, and technology.

The successful candidate will engineer reusable cloud infrastructure, automate platform provisioning, embed governance and controls, and deliver production-ready GCP services to support enterprise AI/ML workloads.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and automate GCP infrastructure using Terraform and Python.
• Provision and manage cloud environments across all stages, including Production.
• Develop reusable modules, templates, and engineering patterns to support scalable GCP adoption.
• Implement cloud services and platform capabilities required for Vertex AI and enterprise AI/ML workloads.
• Build automation for provisioning, configuration validation, compliance enforcement, operational workflows, and platform integrations.
• Partner with architecture, security, network, IAM, and platform teams to deliver compliant, production-ready solutions.
• Translate operating model and control-plane requirements into deployable engineering assets and standards.
• Support environment setup, service onboarding, policy alignment, and release readiness for GCP workloads.
• Ensure all solutions meet enterprise requirements for security, governance, compliance, and resiliency, including for regulated and high-control environments.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure life cycle management, version control, and release automation.
• Produce high-quality documentation covering platform designs, engineering standards, patterns, and operational procedures.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor team members on cloud engineering best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Deep expertise with Terraform, including module development and environment provisioning.
• Strong Python development/Scripting skills for automation and tooling.
• Experience engineering and managing cloud infrastructure in enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with core GCP services (networking, compute, IAM, storage, monitoring, security).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and automated deployment practices.
• Understanding of cloud governance, policy enforcement, secure design, and operational controls.
• Ability to design scalable, maintainable, and reusable cloud engineering solutions.
• Strong troubleshooting ability, collaboration skills, and technical documentation capability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Vertex AI, AI/ML platform enablement, or API-based model integration.
• Exposure to enterprise cloud control planes or multi-cloud platform engineering.
• Familiarity with IAM, networking, security, and policy-as-code concepts.
• Experience working in regulated industries (eg, banking, financial services).
• Knowledge of SRE practices, observability, and production support for cloud platforms.
• Experience driving platform standardisation and implementing engineering operating models.
