Job description

This post sits within Shropshire Council's central Insight Team, a group of data specialists and experts driving forward the council's ambition to become a truly data-led organisation. This is one of council's the strategic services, working across services to turn complex data into clear, actionable insight that supports better decisions, better services and better outcomes for residents

In this role, you will lead on the development of high-quality intelligence for Adult Services , delivering interactive reporting, analytics, forecasting and modelling to support transformation, improvement programmes and regulatory assurance. You will work closely with Adult Services colleagues, senior leaders and partners, providing expert insight that informs service design, demand management, performance monitoring and preparations for inspections and peer reviews.

Requirements

We're looking for an experienced data professional who is confident working with complex information and motivated by the opportunity to use data to support transformation of services and improve outcomes., You'll bring strong experience in data and reporting, ideally with at least five years' experience and a solid understanding of Adult Social Care data. You'll be comfortable working with large, complex datasets, extracting, transforming and integrating data from different systems, and applying this to real-world service challenges. Experience of working with sensitive information and a strong understanding of data protection and information governance are essential.

Strong analytical and technical skills are key. You'll have demonstrable experience using tools such as Power BI, SQL and other data and analytics platforms to produce high-quality reporting, dashboards and insight. You'll be able to analyse and interpret complex data, explain it clearly to others and, ideally, contribute to forecasting or modelling to support demand management and service planning.

You'll be confident working with stakeholders at all levels. This role involves close collaboration with Adult Services, managers and senior leaders, so you'll need strong communication skills and the ability to build credibility, challenge constructively and translate business requirements into effective data solutions.

A methodical and quality-focused approach matters. You'll have experience improving data quality, supporting data owners, documenting data sources and contributing to consistent standards and frameworks for reporting and performance management.

We're also looking for the right personal approach. You'll be organised, proactive and solution-focused, able to prioritise competing demands and work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team. A willingness to learn, adapt and keep up with emerging tools and best practice in data and analytics is essential.

Relevant qualifications (or equivalent experience) in data, analytics or a related field are expected, and experience of working in local government or awareness of national policy and regulatory drivers is desirable.
