Job description

  • be part of a team that provides 8:30am to 5pm cover.
  • take part in a 24/7/365 on call rota.
  • respond to and resolve incidents to meet agreed targets.
  • proactively monitor system performance, taking preventative or corrective action where required, ensuring Change Management procedures are always adhered to.
  • provide root cause analysis to problems and propose/implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • take a proactive role in the project to migrate on-premise services to cloud.
  • participate in configuration design and upgrade pathways for the existing infrastructure.
  • configure and install solutions to meet the business needs, ensuring agreed standards and the Companies House Change Management process is adhered to.
  • decommission redundant systems/hardware.
  • document existing and future systems/processes.
  • ensure the CMDB is kept up to date.

Benefits & conditions

£41,509 - £52,509 Base salary is £41,509 per year with an additional DDaT allowance of £4,350 - £11,000 available. The final salary and allowance awarded will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview. All our roles come with an excellent benefits’ package, including the generous Civil Service Pension Scheme. Further salary increases depend entirely upon the outcome of our annual pay negotiation with central government. The flat rate on-call allowance payment assumes up to 30 minutes spent in resolving incidents in a 24-hour period. Any incident (or cumulative incidents) that require longer than 30 minutes resolving would attract standard overtime rates. If attendance on site is necessary, then a minimum of 3 hours’ overtime would be payable.

In addition, during weekend on-call you will be able to claim additional overtime when responding to an alert/call as set out below:

Time worked (minimum of 3 hours) at weekend overtime rate (currently time and quarter), Companies House uses a blended interview technique, allowing us to find out more about you. We use the Success Profile framework and at interview we will use Success Profiles assessing the Behaviours and Technical skills listed in the advert.

Successful candidates from the sift stage will be invited to a virtual interview, which will be conducted using Microsoft Teams.

The lead criteria to distinguish between tied candidates will be the Technical skill: Automation (specifically Terraform).

A reserve list may be held for up to 12 months from which further appointments may be made for the same or similar roles.

About the company

We are looking for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support and develop our existing Linux and Storage infrastructure. The Linux and Storage team performs a key role in the IT Services area of Companies House. The team supports the infrastructure that runs both front end services and back-end databases that underpin the core business functions of Companies House i.e. company registration, dissolution, and the storage of company information, as required under the Companies Act.
