About the Organisation

You'll be joining an established, innovation-driven organisation operating within the healthcare and regulated consumer products space. The business develops and manufactures specialist products used globally, with a strong emphasis on quality, efficacy, and regulatory compliance.

Within the organisation, the Product Development function sits at the heart of innovation. The team works cross-functionally with manufacturing, supply chain, regulatory, clinical and commercial teams to translate product concepts into reliable, scalable solutions that meet both customer needs and regulatory expectations. This is a highly collaborative environment, ideal for someone who values technical ownership and real-world application of formulation science.

The Role of the Formulation & Application Specialist

In this role, you will be responsible for progressing new formulations from early-stage concepts through development and toward manufacturing readiness. You'll apply scientific judgement, structured experimentation, and practical problem-solving to ensure formulations are effective, stable, and fit for purpose. Experience with product development is highly desirable.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing new formulations based on briefs or target product profiles
  • Translating performance requirements into practical formulation strategies
  • Selecting suitable raw materials, ingredients, and technologies
  • Preparing and evaluating laboratory prototypes for feasibility, stability, and performance
  • Creating clear formulation development plans and progressing work through iterative design cycles
  • Conducting application testing, informal stability studies, benchmarking, and compatibility assessments
  • Troubleshooting formulation issues to improve performance, robustness, and manufacturability
  • Using experimental data to guide formulation decisions and assess risk
  • Supporting scale-up activities, considering processing requirements and manufacturing constraints
  • Maintaining clear laboratory records, formulation histories, and technical documentation
  • Providing regular technical updates to stakeholders and supporting project planning activities

Requirements

  • A BSc (or higher) in chemistry, life sciences, or a closely related subject
  • Recent Practical experience in formulation development and product development within a regulated environment
  • Recent experience assessing application performance of consumable or applied products
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical, data-driven approach
  • Excellent organisation, time-management, and communication skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively across R&D, manufacturing, commercial and regulatory teams

Desirable experience includes:

  • Knowledge of regulated product areas such as BPR, MDR, or cosmetics
  • Experience generating technical documentation to support product claims, registrations, and QMS requirements
  • Involvement in successful product development from concept through scale-up and launch
