Job description
We're excited to be hiring a Data Scientist to play a key role in driving customer retention and order rate performance at Gousto. In this role, you'll build, improve, and deploy data science products that directly support menu trading decisions-helping us better understand our customers and deliver the right meals at the right time. You'll ensure we're capturing and leveraging the right data, applying the most effective algorithms to create impactful, scalable solutions.
Working as part of a cross-functional team alongside product managers, analysts, and software engineers, you'll continuously refine models to support Gousto WINs initiatives and unlock new opportunities for growth. You'll also contribute to the OKR planning process, identifying areas for improvement and assessing feasibility to ensure we're focusing on the highest-impact work. If you're motivated by seeing your models drive real customer outcomes, this is a role where your impact will be clear and immediate!
Core responsibilities
- Support Menu Planning: Partner with the menu planning team to effectively use data science optimisation tools to shape weekly menus.
- Drive Menu Improvements: Use simulation tools to identify opportunities, working with analytics and menu teams to design and run A/B tests on menu composition.
- Enhance Data Science Products: Continuously improve existing tools (such as menu planners, simulation tools, and optimisation models) to support new propositions and improve key trading metrics.
- Identify New Opportunities: Collaborate with senior data scientists and stakeholders to uncover and prioritise new data science opportunities within the menu domain.
- Reduce BAU Effort: Identify and implement improvements that reduce manual overhead and streamline processes for both data teams and stakeholders.
- Deliver Production-Ready Solutions: Follow best practices for deploying data products into production, while proactively suggesting improvements to architecture and processes.
- Improve Testing & Deployment: Support the ongoing development of testing and deployment capabilities within the squad to ensure robust and scalable solutions.
- Stay at the Cutting Edge: Keep up to date with the latest data science techniques and tools, applying relevant innovations to improve menu performance.
- Contribute to the Data Community: Share knowledge, promote best practices, and help strengthen the data science community both within Gousto and externally.
- Shape Team Culture: Play an active role in building a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture across the data function and wider Gousto team.
Requirements
- Applied Data Scientist: You have strong knowledge of optimisation and machine learning techniques, with experience applying them to real-world problems that drive measurable impact.
- Simulation Aware: You understand how simulation can be used to inform decision-making and improve outcomes, even if you're not deeply specialised in it.
- Curious About Emerging Tech: You have an interest in GenAI and agentic AI, with an understanding of how they can enhance productivity and improve customer-facing experiences.
- Technically Strong: You are highly proficient in Python, with a working knowledge of SQL and PySpark for handling and transforming data at scale.
- Production-Focused: You have experience writing production-ready code and deploying data science products, even in environments with limited engineering support.
- MLOps Exposure: You have some experience working with platforms such as Databricks or AWS within an MLOps context.
- Collaborative: You've worked effectively in cross-functional teams alongside analysts, software engineers, and product managers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Customer-Focused: You have experience working with customer data, ideally within a subscription or e-commerce environment, and understand how data can drive customer outcomes.
