Job description
The Technology and Operations Lead is responsible for managing all specialized building operations, technical systems, and event production within the Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice. The center includes a flexible black box theater, LED volume, three creative studios, a maker space with podcast rooms, and meeting spaces that support transdisciplinary instruction, research, and community work. The role serves as the primary liaison to UNCG's Information Technology Services, Parking Services, Campus Security, and Facilities Operations. This position occasionally supports technology-driven projects at the Weatherspoon Art Museum and assists in partnerships between the two facilities as appropriate., * Oversees the operation, security, and performance of all JTCCP technical systems, including the LED volume, lighting and sound systems, audio/visual platforms, digital capture equipment, networking, and specialized creative technologies.
- Develops protocols for equipment use, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Ensures reliability and safety of all systems for instructional, research, commercial, and community use.
Key Responsibility Event & Production Support Essential Tasks
- Coordinates technical and production support for performances, classes, workshops, research activities, and rentals.
- Provides live audio, lighting, projection, and multimedia support as needed.
- Develops production schedules and technical plans in collaboration with faculty, campus partners, and community collaborators.
- Ensures compliance with safety standards and best practices.
Key Responsibility Facility & Operations Management Essential Tasks
- Manages daily operations of the JTCCP facility, including scheduling spaces, overseeing room configurations, supporting access control, and coordinating with UNCG Parking Services and Campus Security.
- Develops and implements operational procedures for the black box theater, studios, podcast rooms, and makerspace.
Key Responsibility Training, User Support & Vendor Management Essential Tasks
- Provides training and guidance for students, faculty, staff, and community partners on equipment use, technical workflows, and safety procedures.
- Develops technical training programs for student employees and emerging professionals.
- Negotiates, monitors, and maintains relationships with external vendors, service providers, and contractors supporting specialized technology.
- Occasionally advises WAM staff on vendor needs, technology procurement, or training for new digital platforms connected to JTCCP/WAM collaborations.
Key Responsibility Budget & Resource Oversight Essential Tasks
- Manages technology and facilities budgets, including maintenance, replacement, and vendor contracts.
- Tracks expenditures, forecasts needs and allocates resources effectively.
- Works with the WAM/JTCCP finance manager to ensure compliance with university policies and efficient operational cost management., * Serves as a productive member on a project team by completing assigned tasks.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Advanced training or certifications in technical production, immersive technology, AV systems, virtual production, LED volume operation, or related fields preferred.
Professional Skills and Experience:
- Five years of experience in technical operations, event production, or facility management in a creative, performance, media, or academic environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex AV systems, lighting, audio, projection, digital media, and/or immersive or real-time rendering technologies.
- Experience training and supervising student, part-time, or technical staff.
- Strong organizational, communication, and project-management skills.
- Ability to work independently under multiple deadlines and manage simultaneous projects across diverse user groups.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Additional Qualifications:
- Knowledge of safety procedures and industry best practices for technical production, makerspaces, and creative facilities.
- Experience with vendor contracts, service agreements, or technology procurement is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse populations., * Ability to set priorities and know when priorities need to be changed.
- Works independently and manages job without supervision.
- Ability to organize and follow moderately complex and/or detailed technical procedures., * Ability to perform diagnostics on assigned software and hardware according to standard operating procedures.
- Independently resolves routine and some non-routine technical problems through standard troubleshooting procedures.
- Ability to make decisions based on weighing options and consequences.
