The Enterprise Architect will lead the architectural vision, design, and technical oversight for solutions aligned to the VA's mission, with a strong emphasis on modernizing and integrating into legacy VBA/VHA/Vista/Oracle Health connected systems. This role requires extensive experience with VA architecture patterns, data flows, authentication environments, and system interoperability challenges. The architect will directly support requirements aligned to opportunities associated with VA, including solutions for proposal responses and hands on post-award work.
In this role, the architect will define and govern solution, data, and workflow architectures that support secure user experiences, streamlined operational processes, and reliable integration across platforms. They will guide the creation of technical documentation, system specifications, testing frameworks, and compliance materials, ensuring that all artifacts meet federal and VA standards while supporting strong performance, scalability, and security postures.
The Architect will collaborate closely with cross functional teams including development, cybersecurity, product, and UX, and will regularly engage VA stakeholders to validate technical assumptions and refine solution approaches. They will provide expert insight into modernization strategies, integration needs, and architectural best practices that help deliver comprehensive, high-quality solutions across the VA ecosystem.

Develop enterprise-level architecture for VA-focused digital solutions, ensuring full alignment with specified requirements, deliverables, and performance objectives.

Lead the modernization and integration of VA legacy systems, including but not limited to Vista, VBMS, CAPRI, eMASS, and other VA proprietary applications.
Workflow, Solutions, and Data Architecture

Architect solutions enabling multi-user portals with secure authentication frameworks.

Review and design data models, metadata structures, and standardized data delivery formats for DBQ submissions as outlined in the PWS optional tasks.

Develop architecture supporting workflow queues, status tracking, escalations, and validation rules consistent with PWS system design expectations.
Technical Documentation & Compliance

Oversee production of system design documentation, technical specs, test plans, scalability testing artifacts, remediation trackers, and transition plans.

Support architectural inputs to eMASS documentation and participation in ATO-related stewardship reviews.
Cross-Functional Leadership

Provide architectural guidance to development, cybersecurity, UX, and product teams to ensure cohesive solution delivery.

Engage with VA stakeholders to validate technical assumptions, clarify data integration needs, and refine solution approaches.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, Information System, Biomedical Engineering (or a closely related discipline)

Master Degree in Health Informatics, Nursing Informatics, Information Systems, or Business Administration (preferred)
Experience Required:
-
10+ years of experience in enterprise architecture supporting federal health or VA/VHA/VBA systems.

Demonstrated working knowledge of VA legacy systems, including architecture, data flows, dependencies, and constraints.

Proven experience developing architectures aligned with detailed PWS requirements, especially in areas such as:

System design reviews,

Data model reviews,

Performance and capacity planning,

Technical specification development.

Familiarity with FedRAMP, and VA cybersecurity requirements including work products executed through eMASS.

Experience designing user-facing portals and backend integration workflows, consistent with portal requirements discussed in VA solution meetings.

Type of Employment: Full-time, W2
Work Location/Travel: Expected 50% travel required; applicants must be free from travel restrictions to accommodate evolving needs of the client.
Salary Range: $132,000 - $159,000 (Indeed -Cerner Software Architect) annually (W2, based on education, experience, and geographic location). Competitive salary/pay, potential for bonus. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is highly competitive but dependent upon employment type (1099, contract, W2).
